remainder man: this night will go away. it will give way to the day. it
won’t have the dignity to go out with a bang. it will fade into the dawn like a coward
shrinking away from the fight. but now, tonight, i’m here breathing it all in. lungfull,
cupfull, gut full. walking through it, endlesly walking. this night will fade into their
world, their zone. the time will become theirs. in out like a slot machine. like a
fuck, like bad luck, like a ride to the same place. the nights come like slow wave music.
i feel the night from far off. when the sun starts to take its seemingly endless leave,
when it stops polluting my life with its brightness & warmth. liquid night, to swim in
the night, bathing in ink. i hyperventilate, trying to get as much night air into myself
as possible, as humanly possible. what a shallow concept. human anything, don’t remind
me, it hurts enough already. at night the phone becomes the magic tool, the voices of the
night might call in. tales of the day sound good, like the wreck that we survived and
crawled away from, the beast that didn’t eat us alive. the fools who didn’t destroy us.
at night we become secret and electric, open to suggestion and truth. it all looks good
at night. violent sexual and ultimate. you look good at night, you look like the only
thing in the world that matters. show me your dances of abandon. let your hands outline
my body, hurt me, scar me, make me remember you forever, turn into a lyric, a living
dream. right here in this night, this deep place, this high-ceilinged crawl space.
