Jason Smith ( a.k.a MC/DJ SCARBRED) was first introduced to dj'ing in 1993 by a wide
variety of disc jockeys
and emcee's. Having been inspired by the likes Dj's Shamann, King Turbo, Redflame, Dj X,
Mastermind,
and emcee's like the mighty MONOLITH, Saukrates, I.R.S, from Toronto, a new found love for
music was formed.
His dedication for dj'ing and mc'ing was rewarded in 1996 after aquainting and befriending
Joe Lemieux
(a.k.a Mighty Joe). As they started off dj'ing hip-hop/house/reggae and hosting small
house parties, the realization of what was to come
was very apparent. In the prime of the "rave" scene in 1997 Jason had been
introduced to Jungle, Drum & Bass
at a local club, The Basement, which was very well known for it's Jungle following, and
once again a new found
love had been established, along with a keen ear and repect for Jungle MC's. In 1999
after a few years of being a "bedroom dj"
going to countless raves such as, Syrous, Life Force, Dose, Destiny,Big Bud, Next
Junction, intaking everything he could, it was
a specific moment in time what ultimately led him to become a jungle, Drum N Bass MC.
"When I seen Shabba D at WEMF 1999,
in Sauble Beach, I knew I wanted to be an MC right away", " The intensity and
crowd control that Shabba had, was
by far, the most exciting emcee spectacle I had ever seen". In early 2000, Jason had
aqquainted himself with DF ent, which
ran 254's SWING SATURDAYS, and quickly became a resident MC/DJ. A meeting of the minds
took place in late 2003, between Chris Kaiser
Dj Slip n Slide, Jason Scarbred, and Mighty Jo Lemieux and the notorious FUTURE SOUND was
united. Established in 2004, Future Sound Entertainment
was formed and founded by Slip & Slide, Kaiser, Mighty Joe & Scarbred. Future Sound was
founded out of a love for Drum & Bass & since its inception,
some of the biggest Drum & Bass events in Toronto's history have been brought to you by
this crew. As well as a weekly radio show on
Energy 105.1FM (www.energy105.fm) broadcasting every Wednseday 2-4am across the entire
city. And now with DJ Animal reinforcing
the team, there truly is no limit. From it's first gig the front room (Liberation Lounge)
@ The Docks to weeklies showcasing the Future Sound
residents, as well as other Toronto DJ's and MC's, at Toronto nightclubs such as Oxygen,
Pulse & Dream Lounge, Future Sound quickly
made the jump to booking international DJ's and MC's and bigger and better nightclubs
including hosting the legendary Loaded Saturdays
at System Soundbar. Many think of this as the turning point for Future Sound. Some of the
first international acts appearing for Future Sound
were Demolition Man & Million Dan, & subsequently DJ SS. The love of drum & bass, the
success of these first few shows, the vibes at these
first few events, the feedback of people at the parties, and the ambition to go bigger
prompted Future Sound to put together its first
large-scale event. Saturday January 22nd, 2005 "Blazin" inside the basement of
Toronto's notorious Sound Emporium (formerly Turbo)
featuring the combination of Toronto favourite and AWOL legend Darren Jay with Highly
Blessed, arguably the worlds #1 MC Shabba.
In the middle of two plus feet of snow, the blizzard of the year, 700 party people showed
up and the vibes was through the roof!! The energy
at the event was undeniable. Future Sound was now a major player in the game. Next up,
Future Sound wanted to throw Canada a
birthday party she would soon not forget with "Still Blazin" featuring original
rudeboy and another AWOL legend... Urban Takeover frontman
Mickey Finn & the always timeless and legendary MC MC. The crew booked out Afterlife
nightclub (formerly Limelight) and on a gorgeous
summer evening, yet another amazing event. Full of party people having a good time,
amazing sets by all the entertainers and this time
around 900 people inside the place. Mickey Finn & MC MC performed rude gangsta sets full
up of dubplatez, slammin vinyl & rewinds for the
Junglists inside. Now with the the first two events in the "Blazin Trilogy" in
the books, Future Sound wanted to once again to raise the bar.
And so Friday October 14th, 2005 Future Sound once again came correct in full effect with
"Fully Blazed" featuring the return of MC Shabba
this time alongside True Playaz badboy Generation Dub inside one of Toronto's premier
venue's The Docks Entertainment Complex.
Filling the club to capacity with pure Jungle vibes the show has been called one of the
best parties in Toronto's history.
Now Future Sound was really on the map. Since then Future Sound brought Toronto
"Temple of Boom" featuring Bad Company & Mc Navigator,
"Kings of The Jungle" featuring Kenny Ken and the Original Nuttah himself UK
Apache, for his first Toronto show, "Champion Sound"
featuring Mampi Swift and the return of MC Fearless, "Tour of Duty" marking the
return of the mighty Darren J alongside MC Riddla,
Fast Forward inside the Docks Entertainment Complex featuring Nicky Blackmarket alongside
Skibadee & Shabba aka SAS. And with 4 Kings of The Jungle's in the history
books.....Expect more from this team.... |
