Purerave displays glimpses of the way in which sexuality is deformed and distanced from
any true meaning or connection with human desire through the medium of the image.
PR users rant about the 15 year old girls who pose half-nude for the camera and then post
them in their *public* albums. How is this any different from the (semi)/pornographic
images that appear in just about everyone’s profile?
These young girls are simply imitating what is being demonstrated to them as desirable,
attractive female behavior. We all want to be attractive, don’t we?
How many explicit images of male sexuality do you see on the internet in comparison to
that of female sexuality?
As a culture, we have distanced ourselves from our desires to such a degree that we don’t
even know what true desire “looks like”.
Sex is a commodity to be bought and sold in the marketplace: the dirtier and the kinkier,
the better. You’re trendy if you are kinky. People will find you interesting and
appealing if you are dirty.
But, is this what we want? Has S&M, sex toys and pornography become the symbol of our
present day society?
True revolution will arrive when we can locate our desire apart from the marketplace and
discover it within ourselves. It will arrive when we are able to express ourselves based
on emotion and not on what we view in advertisements. |
