My Name is Ian Mater - Dj Laftergas
I began my techno/raveing quest in 2004 @ WEMF, haveing only tried chems a few times and
being only 16, this was a totally new experience for me, i had just gotten together with
my girlfriend steph at my cottage a week before, after a long break apart, we drove up
with mu uncle Scot and that was sick! when we drove up I instantly fell in love, 100s of
cool people walking around in cool outfits/costumes doing crazy tricks and shit, and
everyone you talked to almost was your friend...got high...and went into the stages @
around sunset and again i fell in love as soon as the music hit me and i heard over the
sound system"NOW WE GOT A REAL TREAT FOR YA! all the way from the UK give it up for
JOHN 00 FLEMMING!!" and the bass went BOOOOOM! i knew i was gona be there 4 a long
time...even tho i got ditched by Steph 4 the whole night and she took all my money and
drugs and went off with some other guy the whole night and i caught them kissing and doing
my drugs...that aside it was the most beautiful night of my life but because of htat it
was also one of the worst...and i guess that is fitting for my 1st rave...when i came back
i told my friend grant about it and that i saw his cousin archie there
and hes like "ok ian so u had fun?" i was like yea?
and hes like this weekend im taking u 2 NITROUS LOUNGE! and i was like whers that??
HAHAHA
so i started partying there and i notised some faces from WEMF! and Mike Conradi a dj from
wemf that i saw was there every night
i watched him and A6 and Steve-0 spin every friday and saterday + big headliners like drag
n fly Phat Conductor Deko-Ze and Jelo!!! I couldnt get enough! i wanted 2 be the guy up
there making the club bounce so i made a desision 2 teach myself...i got a dj program and
went to work...the summer ended and so came school...but i didnt have time 4 school ther
was much mixing to be done! so i statred skipping and mixing techno now at 1st ask all my
friends(katy grant steph) i wasnt that good but as time went on u could tell i was getting
it(HOUSE MASTER / WEED MAN lmao) then i started becoming friends with steve-0 and he
showed me levels and about highs and basslines and such that helped me alot...
our special place got closed down due 2 a tradgady @ the club and just like that there was
no more nitrous lounge...man this place was like a raver acadamy u could go and get a
chemestry leson lol dance lessons djing 101 hahaha it was a special place and then it was
just gone...thats where my dj name comes from "Laftergas" meaning nitrous
oxide...i learned how 2 rave, dance, spin and get straight funky because of that place and
the people behind it and now i wanna return the favor and bring other people 2 a scene
with good intentions and a bad name
Now I have partied in Niagara, Toronto, Cleveland, and Detroit + wemfed it up the past 3
years in a row not 2 mention my sketchy adventures just raveing it up around welland,
niagaqra falls and orangeville and such lol...each scene has its own flavor and style and
is very unique i feel privilaged 2 have gotten so much different flavor from different
places, i want 2 incorperate that into not just my partying/spinning but my life...theres
a huge world out there people go experience it
FEAR and LOATHING in Las Vegas (in Gonzovision)
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of
high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole multi colored
collection of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart
of
rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all
that
for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it
as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing
in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an
ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon."
