The story of DJ Freed begins back in 1997, while putting on a number of small teen dances
in the city of Sudbury with DJ Grind, using basic CD decks and old mixers, he learned what
he could in the time he had. Although he would carry on the name Freed, all it would be is
just a nickname for the time being. Fast forward to May 2002, while visiting a friends
house and flipping through sum CD’s, he came across one labelled, “Lisa Lashes: Hardhouse
Euphoria” and decided to give it a listen. This one CD changed his outlook on music in
an instant. From every beat of the drum, to every vocal, synth and hi hat, he followed
along for the hour it went on. Just days after hearing this, he accompanied a few friends
to a place in Sudbury, known as the GAMES ROOM. A locally owned company called JitterJaw
productions was throwing one of their monthly events here. As he walked in and started to
feel the vibe he immediately noticed the DJ, and walked over to watch what he was doing.
Once the night was done it was clear that Freed wanted to take a crack at DJing. His
Taste: UK Hardhouse and Hard Trance, His Format: Vinyl. But his attempt at learning this
new skill would have to wait yet another 2 years. Fast forward again to February 2004,
after 2 years of running a semi-successful sales company, and finally shutting it down,
Freed returned back to Sudbury, first goal in mind, to buy a set of turntables, sum
records, and start learning. Thanks to the impeccable support from all his friends, and
fellow DJ’s, Freed landed a gig for Jitterjaw on June 26th, 2004 @ Club 7 in Sudbury,
there couldn’t of been a better way for him to celebrate his birthday. Now just a little
over a year later, after a move down south, DJ Freed is well on his way to making himself
a well known name in the Toronto scene, gaining affiliations with the legendary NigHtMaRe
Productions of Toronto, as well as BAM Industries of London, and Back Alley Beatz of
Niagara Falls. Things are looking up and up for Freed in the near future, with 2 new
compilation CD’s on the way, and he is even planning on taking a shot at producing his own
music. But he always knows he couldn’t of gotten as far as he has, or any further for
that matter, without the support of all his friends and colleagues.
