You could say I’m feeling wonderful, full of life…because I am, I want to live my life
with so much energy, control, and happiness that no one but me can take it away. I’ve come
to realize the source of my illness, and I know that I’m to blame this time…and for once
in my life, I’m taking that responsibility. I really do deserve better then what’s been
given to me. I can’t control my past, but I can control my future, in a sense. Just
because I live in a dysfunctional family doesn’t mean I have to be conflicted. I know that
I can’t complain, though. I’ve lost touch with my mom, and can’t even hug my dad without
glass in the way, and sure, I don’t have that romanticized home environment with both
parents and all my siblings sitting around the dinner table, but I do have a family, and
my grandparents have done all they can do for me, but I’ve been so selfish, so
unthankful…never seeing that maybe they were suffering to. The dad that has brought me so
much pain is their son, as much a part of them as me, so why should I be the only one
letting it get in the way of my life here, and now? And why have I been selling myself so
short? Settling for less then what I deserved. I didn’t think I was worthy of any good in
my life, but I realize now that I am. Everyone deserves a life worth living, it’s
everyone’s privilege, and I won’t be so stupid as to take it for granted. I won’t BE a
problem; I’ll help to console the problem. I need to be something. I need to feel
importance. I need the do my part to live the life I deserve. I need to fulfill the goals
I’ve been forsaking. This isn’t right, how I’ve been living. So selfishly, so
ungratefully. I’m going to get up the grades I’ve let slip, and go to the college I’ve
dreamed of. I’m going to be something and make a life for myself. But at the same time,
I’m going to do it as carefree, fun loving, and outgoing as I always have. I’m going to be
what I deserve this time…not what I settle for.1
