I graduated from George Brown College in the spring of 2006 and am now an Early
Childhood Education (ECE). I plan to go into Ryerson’s ECE program for another two years
so I can get my B.A. before going on to get my masters in Education. I'd like to become a
kindergarten or primary grade teacher .

I've been working with children since I was 14 and am currently employed at the daycare
where I've worked since I was 15. I work the summer there as a program director for
children age 5 to 11. In the spring I spend a month in Algonquin Park teaching outdoor
education (canoeing, kayaking, archery, fire building, etc.) to youth age 11 to 13.

In January of 2006 I had the opportunity to work with 3-, 4-, 5- and 6-year-olds for a
month at a basic school in Portmore Jamaica, which is about an hour’s drive west of
Kingston. The experience changed my life and opened my eyes to the rural hardships faced
by some children living in a poverty stricken nations like Jamaica. In late May and
early June of 2006 I spent another month working with 3-year-olds in an international
daycare in Suzhou China, which is about an hour and a half’s drive south of Shanghai.
There I got to work with children from all over the world; few spoke English but the
amazing thing was that we communicated so well through play.
