Some say the most interesting artists are ones with the most diverse of
influences, the ones with the most open of minds. That being said, it was only natural
that “brick city,” USA’s own Elimu steered himself deep into the realm of musical
awareness via the wheels of steel. Elimu began spinning records way back in 1993, when
some of today’s party-goers were still rocking diapers and fisher price shoes. Taking
inspiration from his love of vintage hip hop and reggae riddimz, Elimu’s early sets were
eclectic and got house parties bumping along the upper east coast of the United States. As
his skills grew behind the decks, so did his personal taste in music. Being a fan of hip
hop breaks, b-boy jams and smooth reggae vibes, Elimu soon discovered dirty, old school
house music, early rave beats and ragga jungle. His sets soon grew to really cover the
whole spectrum of music as a whole.

His true niche and passion thought, lays deep within the jungle. In the mid-90’s,
Elimu began incorporating more and more drum’n’bass into his sets as he fell deeper in
love with the soulful sounds, pounding basslines, and furious percussion. Not content with
simply spinning records, he began promoting parties in New York City with Jungle Sky
Records, including the early NASA/Caffeine parties. He also was a regular at the infamous
– and now defunct – Limelight, and other NYC club’s such as Don Hillz. During his
ascension in the American drum’n’bass world, he’s played at clubs all over the country, in
San Diego, across New Jersey, in Vermont and abroad.

Elimu has also held down a residency on WJSC 90.7 FM, a pirate radio station run out
of Johnson, Vermont. He has also played to packed crowds on the Vans Warped Tour, warming
the crowds up for Jersey-based wordsmith Arcane. He’s rocked many hip hop jams along the
way, citing early 90s artists such as Wu-Tang and A Tribe Called Quest as favorites. Other
artists that have influenced Elimu on the electronic front include Aphrodite, AK1200, TC
Islam, Pete Tong, Junior Vasquez, Micro, Dj Rap, Reid Speed, Brisk, Moby, Adam X, Dmitri
From Paris and so many more. In 2007, under the wing of fellow New Jersey based producers,
Elimu is testing the waters and trying his hand on the boards using everything from Reazon
to Pro Tools. That being said expect to hear some big sounds hit hard from South of the
border this summer.
