1. Footprints. Walking through puddles and then looking back to see what my feet
look like to the ground.
2. Journaling. Taking things I can't see tucked inside my head, and rendering them
solid and visible on paper. Recording every memory, feeling, or idea into text, list,
image, or memento to counter my irrational fear of forgetting everything that matters.
3. Flannel sheets. Preferably fresh from the dryer, but even unfresh, I don't ever
want to leave my coccoon.
3. Found faces. Lonely faces found lost in wood swirls, door knobs, electrical
outlets, patterns on dresses, wallpaper designs, fingerprints, toiletpaper print, clouds,
dirty mirrors, et cetera.
4. Souvenirs of strangers. For example, I found a love letter folded into brown
construction paper in a poetry book called Cela Seul which I bought from a thrift store
while on a business trip on St. Laurent. I also enjoy finding business cards, dirty
handwritten notes, and bank receipts left at the machine.
5. Pimentos. And sucking them out of their olive holes.
6. Bellerose. Makes me muse and paint.
7. Yams. Because they're sweet and salty in the best possible way.
8. Making sepia photographs of things I feel good with. Because I feel good with
them.
9. Sleeping near people or cats. Coldness interferes with the circadian rhythm of
my REM.
10. Finding old candy in my pocket. Especially when it is still in its wrapper, but
sometimes if it's just a piece of red licorice and there is only a little fuzz of lint on
it, I'll still try a taste of it. |
