Toronto’s jungle scene was healthy and vibrant, so Boris began attending parties and club events to get his DNB fix. Around 2001, Boris was no longer content standing on the side lines, simply watching his favourite emcee’s and dj’s tearing up dancefloors all over the city. So he did what any true aspiring artist would do and began writing constantly. Soon after, he began going out to the shows and parties every week to cipher alongside other up & coming mc’s. And thus Hoova D was born, although he would later shorten his stage name to MC Hoova, which he still goes by today. After months and months of putting in hard work and crafting his style though, Boris hit a writer’s block and took some time out of the scene to collect his thoughts and reshape his sound. A lot has changed in Toronto’s drum’n’bass community over those 5 years. Dj’s, lyricists, promoters, venues, producers; some go out just as fast as they came. Hoova soon realized the only way to stay relevant to the masses, and build his musical empire, was to adapt with the changes. Upon his return to the drum’n’bass stage, a lot of people began taking notice of his unique flow, and rhyme patterns. He earned himself a residency with Funkadelic, who have thrown wildly successful events in the city for over 4 years. He is also a member of the Sketchy Beats crew. Now, in 2006, all the hard work has since paid off for MC Hoova. This past year, he started up a fresh new company called Proper Sounds Productions, with his partner DJ Fat Spliff. Proper Sounds are now one of the fastest rising promotion companies in Toronto, with collaborations in the works with Terror Inc , amongst others. In `07, Boris plans to expand his horizons. He has also been DJ’ing for about 1 year and plans further pursue his passion for drum’n’bass music by taking his DJ’ing career to new heights. Expect some big things in the new year from one of T-dot's fastest rising emcees.
