Great stuff. Green Day has matured very much as a band over the years. If you watch "Bullet In a Bible" along with the album, it makes incredible sense. Green Day is trying to pay homage to fallen soldiers and shed light on how dumb war really is.

I thought it was a great album. I don't care if "greenday is ruining punk" or whatever some other bullshit is that people are saying, it was a good album, no question.

aren't green day americans? if i'm right i definatley think it's an appropriate title. at least they found a way to ruin what was once a respectable career by making an album that everyone would wanna hear but it seems that selling out is the new 'keeping it real'. these tools are why kurt cobain did what he had to do (i'm sure the heroin wasn't helping tho)

Excellent album

It was an Amazing album. I think people need to realize what Green Day was doing. Green Day since the begining has been a band that has been in and out of the Mainstream scene. Nobody payed any attention to 'Smoothed out Slappy Hours' or 'Kerplunk', but then 'Dookie' comes out and there big.
Green Day makes 'Insominiac' people say they sold out. Then they make 'Nimrod' and all of a sudden...Boom, maybe they haven't sold out. Then they make 'Warning' and people start calling them Garbage. When 'Shenanigans' came out people had pretty much written Green Day off. So green Day made a Greatist hits. Waited a couple years.
Came out with American Idiot...And the cycle repeats. What most people don't seem to realize is that Green Day has always done there thing and not cared what anybody has said. When they put out American Idiot it was just like every other album to them.
Then the media ate it up. I hate the fact that it got played on every radio station. Like, 3 times an hour. But I don't hate Green Day. They made an amazing album Musically and Lyrically. I hate the Media.

I have been a Green Day fan 4 at least more then ten years or more. Green Day was one of the first bands I discovered that was better then anything out of my parents country western and new wave vinyl collection. Green Day was the reason I bought a guitar long ago and I still rock the punk styled 3-4 chord songs that I still love today. Kerplunk and 1000 39 slpped out happy hours was my intro 2 the band but it would be the Dookie album which would astound me and my friends later on. Fast forward to today. I have seen Green Day live twice and literally R one of the best bands 2 ever exist. I have seen a lot of concerts and by a lot I mean a shit-load of bands live from basement shows, to gay bar punk rock circa(K-Town) cuz it was the only bar that would let us have a show to huge shows in Toronto and other places. Now some ppl may say that "Green Day Isn't Punk!" well fuck that. Who cares. They make kick ass music and the American Idiot album is their best work since Dookie. I had 4 awhile thought Green Day was dead, but that is not the case. Long live one of the greatest bands ever and If u think they suck or have never seen them live u r missing out. Totally Fuckin' Insane live! Green Day. The reason I learned 2 play guitar and one of the bands that keeps my ears tuned to the mainstream. U might have too look far and abroad 2 find good music these days but I can say that Green Day does an amazing job releasing albums and touring and I can't wait until tha next bomb is dropped on George W's fucking ass!

Pretty good album, with four or five really solid tracks on it. It's one that you can listen to, and feel the emotion put into the songs, which makes it very genuine.
I find it funny to read reviews from kids who were about 8 years old when Dookie was released, talking about how they sold out and got old.
Hey, guess what? They're in their thirties now... Why don't you criticize Will Smith for not sticking with the 'Parents Just Don't Understand' message into his fourties?

Its an impressive evolution on their part to come up with an album like this. Although not my favourite GD album, I still give it props for the political messages, and the progression of the music itself.
I still prefer the days of Dookie, Kerplunk!, Slappy and 1'000 hours. Sure those days are long gone, but you still have to give GD respect for their musical evolution by means of the maturation both in lyrical content and the instrumentals...

This album didn't do it for me.
It doesn't remind me of Green Day, it reminds me of a band that wants to be played on mtv all day, everyday.

I love this album!
Best Green Day album since Dookie. Every song is great....the music is top notch and Billy Joe's lyrics are the best they've ever been on this album. Definately one of the top 10 albums of last year. And if your even remotely a fan of Green Day, go see them live. They will blow you the fuck away!
