The album we've been waiting for since ...And Justice For All. Is it the most amazing, complex thing ever made? Hell no. But it's Metallica, they're back and they're listenable again, and that in itself is worth getting the album.
Very few *metal bands are able to stay around for long enough to be awesome, get shitty and then make a somewhat successful comeback, it's commendable.
Also, I noted bass mixing was better on this album than on Justice.

Death Magnetic is great, I love it and I like it a lot better than the Black Album. In ways it sounds like every album they've done combined into one.
I get tired of hearing that they sold out or that they suck now.
Metallica is never going to sound like Kill Em All, Justice, or Ride The Lightning. That was over 20 years ago. It is rare for any band that has been around for that length of time to still have the same sound. They shouldn't have to conform to what people want them to be. They are f***ing Metallica, they can do whatever they want.
Loyal Metallica Fan from Kill Em All to Death Magnetic.

I found it to be an enjoyable album, that totally made up for all the crap Metallica has done right back to Load, but Rick Rubin needs to be bludgeoned repeatedly with a brick.
YOU DO NOT BRICKWALL THE RECORDINGS BEFORE SENDING THEM TO BE MASTERED
DUMB FUCK
3/5 because the shitty production quality ruined it for me.

just another case of an 8/10 album being crippled by dynamic range compression. people form fans to engineers are pissed about this one. I'll wait for the 'turn it up' edition to be released in 24/96 in about a year, and then pass judgement on the music itself.
fuck you, music industry.

Agreed
This CD makes up for St. Anger.
Metallica seems to have found their way once again

I agree. Wonderful album. It has to be the best stuff they've come out with since ...And Justice and it really reminds me of that album in particular. The riffs are heavy, the solos rock, the agression is back and they actually took the drums out of the box this time.
It plays well as an album, with a wicked start and killer finish, but the single tracks they released aren't half bad either. I've had it in my playlist for weeks now and would definitely recommend it to anyone that hasn't already run screaming after the catastrophe that was St.Anger.
I cannot WAIT to hear some of this shit live because the floor is going to explode.

A great comeback album from Metallica. You get some old Metallica flavour with lots of riffs, aggression, tempo changes, and you get some new Metallica with some proper singing and bluesy sounding guitar work.
Overall, I have to say I am quite pleased with this CD. It took me a couple of listens to really get into it but now I am glad that I tried.
Recommended for metalheads everywhere.
