I'm a relatively new fan to AFI so I was introduced to both styles at the same time so I would have an unbiased decision.

Their old stuff is more "punk-ish" the new stuff is "emo" or what have you. It's mainly a marketing ploy. I don't believe this band is out there for the money and they are succeeding in doing just that.

For the record, I love Miss Murder and Davey Havok is fucking sex! love

I agree with a few people here, I liked there older music better...and I DESPISE the fact that they are now on muchmusic.
They are still alright but getting overplayed
otherwise I have no complaints.
Jade and Davey are quite attractive though...

I do like AFI's old stuff more, but compositionally, their new stuff is quite good and a lot better than some of the other stuff out there.

I laugh at everyone who says this album isn't consistent with AFI's style and history. Any one who's listened to their work back past Sing the Sorrow understand's that AFI changes with the times. With each new album they've put out has come a stylistic change, so to say this time around that they "don't sound like the same old AFI anymore" is completely ridiculous. They've never been the 'same old AFI,' and those who would call them such haven't been around long enough to judge anyway.
The big issue I took with this album's coming was the marketing. In the past, AFI never seemed to have the need for an 'image.' Group shots, merchandise, sure. But with decemberunderground's coming came a lottt of gimmicks. Increased promotion of 'the despair faction', limited edition portraits of the band members in each album, music videos focusing on the band members instead of the music itself. It just seems like humble ol' A Fire Inside trying to rise above all that it has been. Decemberunderground seems to have a condescending tone- a huge change from Sing the Sorrow's empathetic ways. Probably a jump most fans weren't ready for.

Overall, it seems like they overpromoted an somewhat underachieving album.

add two stars for content, subtract one star for the cult-esque promotions.

.:soundwave:.

I haven't even heard it yet, but once again would simply like to state that any band can make any music and any individual can make their own decision if they like it or not.

Maybe I'll download it later.

Not my most beloved of all AFI albums but one cannot expect them to stay and sound the same forever. Prehaps not the way I would have chosen to take the band but none the less it`s not a horrible album, and how many people here even note the production!

Pay attenion people!

I must say Miss Murder gets stuck in my head a fair bit. My advice is this, rate them on what they are not what they were.

I am a big music buff, and I can't say that newer rock music is my cup of tea. However, I always thought AFI was one of the better modern rock bands. Unfortunately this album seems like it is a step in the wrong direction for the band. It sounds like went for a light industrial/pop kind of sound, which they don't need to do. It seems like they tried to "sell out" when they had enough support not to sell out.

how the hell can this be your fav AFI album? I was soooo excited for it to come out and i was terribly disappointed in it. their last two albums have been fucking amazing, i dont know about best yet but the art of drowning and sing the sorrow fucking rocked. this is just too fucking poppy, boring, and slow. love like winter is definetly the best track on it and thats pathetic. overall i'd say this album is awful.

Not my most favorite AFI album, but its still really good. They have changed their sound alot from when they first started, but in a really good way. They are still one of the few bands that are putting out interesting rock/punk music that is different from what is in the mainstream, which is what makes them such a great band. The album definatlely has a dark retro 80's feel to it. I love it and want to see them live. I heart Davey Havok

My favourite AFI album to date. The boys are able to stay true to their roots whilst maturing their sound into something more electronic and very reminiscent of bands like the Cure. "Kill Caustic" is a hard and fast punk song that when is juxaposed against the melodic "Prelude 12/21" is a prime example of the span of styles this band is able to perform.
