!!SIDESHOWMEL!!

i expected this to be way better, they should have made this movie years ago when the show was still good, in the last 5 years, The Simpsons has gone down the drain. They need to retire the show.

still a decent movie though.

people expected too much of the movie.
it's not supposed to be epic, it's just another Simpsons episode that's on for and hour and a half.
and I thought it was amazing, and perfectly in line with how the show is done.
i mean really, it would have sucked if it wasn't just a long episode.
that's how cartoon movies should be, remember bigger, longer & uncut?
yeah, same thing.
5 out of 5.

Excellent movie. It didn't have the multidimensional plot lines that made the show so good between the 4th and 9th seasons however, it did have some great gags and made me laugh out loud a bunch of times.

The spider pig was great. It was especially so when they used gregorian chant synthesizers to sing the spider pig song during the credits.

It was all topped off by a brilliant ripoff of la Marseillaise as the Springfield anthem.

Good times. smile

Paying to see it in the theater was definitely worth my 6 (or whatever) dollars.

This movie was made for the big screen and the experience of seeing it huge was amazing.
The animators added depth to the images and the musical score was different than what you would have for just a regular show.

It was witty, funny and well done.

Plus I downright love anything Simpsons.

I didn't like the movie. I thought they focused too much on the
family and forgot about all the other characters. It wasn't original,
it was just like the sitcom.. If i paid to see this in the theatre
i would have been annoyed.. which was why i refused and my
friend downloaded it and we watched it at his house. I just
found it really boring, and nothing too write home about.

I laughed at least twice out loud... which is more than I can say for the last few seasons..

They tried really really hard and did a pretty good job... smile plus I was drunk.

Shm00p!

Not as bad as everyone was telling me it is. It was just like a longer episode of the Simpsons, and I liked it.. Wasn't expecting it to be any different than it was.

Seriously. Maybe I'm on crack. But this movie was a freakin' letdown. NO it wasn't the worst movie of all time, but for "10 years in the making" and a budget of 75 MILLION dollars, all I saw was a long half-assed episode of Simpsons. IT WASN'T FUNNY. I LAUGHED ONCE.

Again, it's not that it was bad, it's that I was expecting GUT SPLITTING laughter from a Simpsons movie, and it DID NOT DELIVER. Absolutely not worth seeing on the big screen. Read ANY MOVIE REVIEW SITE OUT THERE and they ALL say the same thing.

I don't understand how anyone can HONESTLY give it 5 stars unless you're some kind of crazy Simpsons fanboy. A 5 star movie is a CLASSIC, above and beyond ANY OTHER MOVIE. This movie was VERY mediocre, and I'd say even less than mediocre when you consider the time, the rewrites, the budget and the license concerned. This COULD HAVE BEEN a HILARIOUS movie, but it wasn't.

My head is NOT in my ass thank you. If you think so, or you're giving this movie 5 stars, you obviously have no clue on what a good movie actually is.

Spider pig was funny the FIRST TIME when I saw it in the TRAILER (which of course had all the funniest parts in it). The second time, or third time... it was dull.

I think it's time for the Simpsons license to be quietly put to sleep.

I was hopeful, I was really hopeful... but in the end, this movie was VERY average, NOT WORTH THE TICKET PRICE.

All of you bashers need to pull your head out of your ass. I loved it, I laughed my ass off many times and I would gladly watch it again.

NOT A huge fan of the simpsons but the foleying was intensely impressive, made it sound almost like a real action movie at some points. And many predictable simpson traits were extended beyond their usual outcome aswell.

i must say i do agree with Optimus-Hoodin the movie is not what the simpsons seemed to be about in all the years ive been watching them back when bart was drawn looking like a 25yr old alcoholic. they have come a long way and are slowly losing what they started with but i love em none the less

the movie coulda had a more classical simpsons aspect but i spose they are changing with times and what ratings are now is more "family based" broadcasting

all in all its the simpsons ofcourse it was awesome

Tuesday August 07, 2007 - 7:24 PM

it was ok, a few laughs but thats about it, and im sure spider pig will infact live on in our memories for many years to come. spider pig, spider pig, does what ever a spider pig does, can he swing from a web, no he cant couse he's a pig.it took them nearly 10 years and over 100 rewrites to get to this film......and this is all they have

Tuesday August 07, 2007 - 4:17 PM

Milton_Ives

It would have been better had it been written 10 years ago, and I'll admit that the show itself needed to be put to rest about 7 years ago... but honestly, I thought this film was fucking fantastic. I laughed all the way through. And personally "The Hard Place" joke was brilliant. Not as brilliant as the bomb-disarming robot blowing it's own head off... but pretty cute, regardless.

But hey, if you didn't like it you didn't like it.
I sure as hell did.

Tuesday August 07, 2007 - 3:23 PM

listen... all you people out there who are saying "I've been with the simpsons from the begining and this movie was perfect" either are lying about knowing who the simpsons are, were not with the simpsons from "the begining", or are in serious need of having their heads examined.

I don't feel like going into great detail, but this movie had NONE of what made the simpsons great and a whole lot of what makes the simpsons so terrible now-a-days.

There were maybe 3 or 4 laughs the whole movie. And soooooo many things that pissed me off. If you were a simpsons fan, Bart being turned by Flanders should have you pulling your hair out of your head. That alone made me want to vomit in disgust.

Also, home being stuck between a gigantic rock and a restaurant conviniantly called "A Hard Place"... are you fucking kidding me...? That's the worse joke I've ever seen on any episode of the simpsons ever....

worse movie ever

blew ass. That was supposed to be "epic"
Boring, predictablre and all the good jokes were in the trailor.

it was like a really looooong one of those "meh" episodes that I paid 8 bucks and left my house to see. 2 things I would not do again.

Sunday August 05, 2007 - 11:48 PM

Mischief.420

The movie was decent and had some funny parts, but it was a lot more unrealistic than anything I've ever seen before on the simpsons. I thought that made it kinda cheesy.

Sunday August 05, 2007 - 8:59 PM

AndeeDee

It was a good movie. I espescially liked how they brought back that really screwy charecter, that originally was the counselor at Barts fat camp as the villain.
All in all a great effort and entertaining to watch.

It Was Pretty Awesome

Well, I give this movie two thumbs up. I've been with the Simpsons from the beginning, and when I had cable I made sure to watch all 27 episodes a week if I could. I read the comic books, Bart's Guide To Life, The Ultimate Guide to the Simpsons, etc....I'm a regular Simpsons geek. Make fun if you will, but I really don't care.

Anywho, I've gone on a tangent. This movie made me laugh REALLY hard...a lot. I'm proud that they didn't do what a lot of people expected and put a bunch of swearing in the movie just because they can...they've never done anything just because they can, which is what makes them so damn good. If they wanted to, they could have shown Bart's full frontal on TV. When the show started, FOX was about to go under as a TV station. Then The Simpsons came along and said they would be a FOX show as long as FOX signed an agreement saying that the network execs. weren't aloud to interfere with ANYTHING on The Simpsons. It's the only show in the history of television that has had no whatsoever censorship from the network. Anyway, point being if they wanted to say "shit" and "fuck" on TV, they could have...but they didn't. If you want a show that will do stuff just 'cause they can get away with it, then watch Family Guy.

They made a hilarious-ass movie without turning into something else. The characters from the show were still the same characters. And the "Itchy/Clinton '08" scene at the beginning..SOOO good. Well, that's all.

....edit....

not one person said it was perfect AND all true Simpsons fans know that Bart has replaced Homer has as a father figure more than once, including Flanders, prior to the movie...as far back as season 9

Didn't care for it..

I've been a fan since day one.
I tried not to watch any of the previews.
I avoid PR when it first came out.
I expected it to be one long TV show

omg.. soo cool seeing it on the big screen.

I was smart too..
I blazed a doobie during the previews.

Sooo worth it.

I also stayed till the end of the credits
Angie and I were the ONLY ONE LEFT laughing during the credits.

Great movie. I laughed all the way through which was probably the goal of the movie. haha favorite part was at the beginning when Bart's skateboarding nude through Springfield and Ralph says (upon seeing him), "I like men now!"

Saw it yesterday and thought it was pretty good. I'm not a HUGE Simpsons fan but I've watched it since I was lil because my bro was really into it. My bf LOVES it too so I went with him. I don't understand why ppl who like the Simpsons, don't like the movie and say "it was just a long episode"....like, duh! What did you expect it to be?? That just doesn't make any sense at all to me. It was funny, entertaining, and well made. I think I enjoyed watching the previous that they played before the movie came on more though. Mr. Bean looks hilarious- and the Bee movie with Jerry Seinfeld looks funny too.
Anyway- if you don't have high expectations you should enjoy it- even if you're not a huge Simpsons fan!

Thursday August 02, 2007 - 9:21 AM

It was an amazing movie, no matter those who think it wasnt. Thats the beauty of the simpsons. it can be a long run-on of a show, but its still a good movie seeing as how well its the simpsons. true and loyal fans wouldnt diss on something they truely care about. So 5 stars, 2 thumbs up fine holiday fun =]

Basically, the commercials gave away most of the funny parts and i felt it kinda lacked what i have been awaiting 18 years for.. so if your gonna see it, thats fine..it was ok, but i would really just wait for the dvd.

3 & 3/4 Stars.

This movie was more then decent - it had its funny parts and its usual drama.

A lot of jokes were funny and adult orientated but nothing perverted.

Overall quality was great and entertaining.

!!abstractiOn!!

I saw the movie on Sat July 28, this was the second day on the screen. Worth watching in the theaters.

I really enjoyed this movie. I've always been a really big fan of the simpsons, and the movie was just as good as the tv show. Lots of laughs and good for anyone who has ever liked the simpsons smile ! Interesting story and no dull moments. It was a shorter movie but it was the perfect length, if it were longer it would have dragged on.

Simpson ROCK ON! happy

The big danger of doing a movie such as The Simpsons is the subject. When you're working with something that has been a pop culture powerhouse for 18 years and spans generations and cultures of television viewers, you're really putting you're neck on the line. Screw up and you disenfranchise thousands if not millions of fans. Thankfully though, Matt Groening and James L. Brooks pull it off.

Unlike the Family Guy movie which felt more like 3 episodes layered on top of each other, the consistency of theme all the way through made it fit the time frame. While some will whine about its short running time, I think the 1.5 hour span is appropriate. Had it been any longer the plot would feel stretched thin.

One of the things that impacted me the most about it was the sheer scale. The difference in size between a tv screen and a movie screen is obvious, but the letterbox format of a screen was a real change from what you'd normally see while watching an episode. The important thing here is that they used the extra space well. The best example of this probably Bart skateboarding naked through town. We get to see a lot more setup, interaction with and reaction from the environment around him. For the first while it comes off kind of foreign, but thats only because its not what one is use to seeing. Once you get past that its quite enjoyable.

The humour is spot on for what one would expect from the series. Lots of physical action, madcap sequences and topical jabs. The opening sequence where Homer comments openly on the fact that people are paying to watch something they'd otherwise see for free (putting aside cable/satellite feeds) delightfully breaks the 4th wall. While there are some movie references, there aren't as many as one would expect. The writers probably avoided them so it wouldn't seem like a Simpsons movie parodying movies. I was really expecting a Biodome send up, but it never came.

The only thing that throws me is rewatchability. While it is a good movie, I think after the first time would its novelty. When it's released to dvd it'll lose both the novelty and the big screen effect. However as I still watch the series on a regular basis and never miss a new episode, I'm sure I will see this many times again. I only hope that in the future I'll find it just as funny, or perhaps even find things that I didn't notice the first time through.

Overall, this is definitely one to see in theatres. Consistantly funny through and through without wearing on. It was worth the wait for its release, and is well worth the ticket price.
