Thursday June 12, 2008 - 2:50 PM
It wasn't SUCH a horrible movie, especially with Jim Carrey being such a fucking hot detective.
The whole significance of the number 23 was very creepy though.
23!! :0

just a thought. anyone ever hear about the mayan prediction of 2012, the end of the world.
anyone notice that this movie was released 5 years before 2012, and if you take 23 and add the two numbers u get 5. its almost as if its a countdown.
if anyone has a chance go and look up "the 23 enigma"
Wednesday February 13, 2008 - 11:19 PM
it doesnt even deserve ONE star, but I'll give it that, it was a good idea. .But it was a horrible movie.

"The Number 23" Was listed, literally, as one of the ten worst movies of 2007. And I completely agree.
Wednesday February 06, 2008 - 1:28 PM
wat was the 23? I saw the movie but didn't get it...mehh
Wednesday February 06, 2008 - 12:43 PM
didn't really like it at all.
it was what i thought it'd be, crap, the idea was kinda lame in my opinion. and the whole movie proved the flaw in mathematics. besides the basics, like adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing, you can make anything equal anything you want. usually using any combination of the basic math skills most people get in grade school. all the extras you learn just make it easier to get whatever answer you want. i'm no math wiz, far from it, but that whole theme annoyed the hell out of me. like it was some huge big deal that somehow everything 'magically' somehow had the equation of 23. he picked and chose how to add shit up to get 23.
on top of that 23 bull, the movie was also incredibly boring. once i'd clued in that this was gonna be a movie about some guy compulsively obsessing over the number 23, which was about the same time he picked up the book, the rest of the movie was just repeating the shit i'd already figured out. that he was a loser with too much time on his hands.
'oh what about the crazy twisting end' blah blah blah. it wasn't that crazy. wasn't even surprising. more so a last ditch effort to try to draw the audience back in cuz they knew they'd lost more than half the interest because of all the math shit, math is boring, even in a thriller. i dunno who decided putting mathematics and suspense/thrillers together would make a great movie, but they should be fired.
the only reason this is getting 2 stars is cuz i didn't fall asleep while watching it.

Okay wow
Great turn around for Carrey
He really impressed me with this role.
Thursday July 26, 2007 - 10:58 PM
I absolutely loved this movie.
It was like solving a crime... except a lot more dramatic. I wasn't expecting Jim Carey to play the role quite as well as he did. I'm used to his funny acts, but I thought he did amazing. The story line was a little creepy, but it was needed to pull the whole thing together. I liked it.
Worth watching a second time too.

After a long stint in his acting career, Jim Carrey finally makes a reappearance in this fairly recent film, "The Number 23".
Carrey plays Walter Sparrow, a dog-catcher who upon reading a book called "The Number 23" slowly descends into madness, believing that the number 23 is coming after him. His wife (played by Virginia Madsen) struggles to see why her husband is going crazy while the son (Logan Lerman) empathizes and even understands (to a degree) what's happening with his father.
A few thoughts came to mind while watching this film. Jim Carrey is almost always cast into very peculiar roles. Looking back at "The Mask" and even "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective", Carrey seems to fit these roles well, if not for his ability to get into the minds of the characters he plays but his way of feeling them out.
Throughout the movie, the character interaction feels a bit disjointed because some of the characters aren't explained as much as Carrey's is. I think a quick flashback of Walter Sparrow's relationship probably could've mended this instability.
The general direction of the movie was done well because the story progressed with few logic gaps. There is a point during the movie where the whole concept of a numerology obsession becomes a bit tiring as Carrey's character constantly refers to something with 23 in it. At what point? After you've heard it for the 23rd time.
Overall, the movie felt strange to watch. It didn't stir a lot of emotion nor even brought much in the way of suspense. The plot left a bit to be desired and the characters a bit underdeveloped. Otherwise, "The Number 23" wasn't a bad film to watch if you want something a bit suspenseful, but there are certainly better ones out there.
That's all for now.

The truth behind this movie is that you can be obsessed with anything. no matter what the subject is whether it is a number, a belief, or a thought you can find it anywhere in your life and if youre looking hard enough it comes up everywhere. There might be many significant relations between the number 23 and historical events but what does that really mean? Again, if you look hard enough you can find relations between anything. I thought that they couldve done a lot more with this idea and with the movie itself without it giving you a headache.

I was disapointed in the movie. I honestly thought that it would be more obsessive then what it was.

Tuesday March 20, 2007 - 4:41 PM
BORING!!!
Two and three and lowest prime multiples, so of course youre going to come by it a lot. And there wasnt enough hidden in the movie to keep me interested. Jim Carey should stick to comedic sociopath roles.
Oh yeah, and the ending was a total cop out.

a psychological thriller with artfully done filmwork with a delighting theme very similar to 300, contrasts, black and whites and saturates, and ofcourse comic influence. loved it
