My favourite movie- too bad it's so easy to pick apart.

The movie essentially didn't have an ending, which was the point. If you want to know what happened to her, fire up Google. When Marie Antoinette left Versailles, she was no longer herself, it was no longer her life- thats the point.

the ending was pretty horrible since they didn't show them actually be exiled or the fact that they went into a smaller palace...... they just cut it off randomly... when there was so much more that had happened before their death...
but other than that.. it was fairly accurate

The movie had a great look, but it blew chunks as far as plot and acting went. They blew their budget on wigs.

I fucking hated the ending of this [won't give it away for those who haven't seen this iffy movie], it was so... vague.

My friend Marty LOVED this movie, but then again, he was on shrooms... so maybe you should do some mush if you're planning on watching this.

The best part of this movie was definitely the party girl who gets fucked up in the most obvious places.

*insert 30 minutes of Kirsten Dunst looking out a carriage window*
*insert your own joke about inserting things*
Twirl twirl sip sip sway sway hairflip.
Wahhh baby is born.

Wahhh baby.
Twirl twirl oh crap.
*insert more carriage windows*

A little bit drawn out.

The redeeming feature was definitely seeing Kirsten naked. :] Hottie.

Marie Antoinette, as the title alludes to, is based on the life of the young French Queen. The production got special permission to film inside Chateau Versailles – which is where the real queen actually lived, the costumes were amazing, Kirsten Dunst was perfectly cast, Jason Schwartzman played Louis XVI wonderfully, the decadence of the French expressed vividly etc. All that being said…I really wanted to like this film (and I did genuinely enjoy parts of it), but ultimately started shuffling in my seat like everyone else in the theatre wondering when it was going to end.

I am familiar with Sophia Coppola’s repertoire and knew not to expect to be on the edge of my seat for break-neck twists and climaxes, but what was lovely and restless about Lost in Translation, is excessive and flat in Marie Antoinette. The film could’ve done with being half its length – even though the running time is only 2 hours. Scenes started running long after a third of the way in, shots could’ve been shortened, some taken out altogether and the point still would’ve come across. Even the soundtrack (which is good btw) couldn’t propel the movie forward fast enough for our liking.

Marie Antoinette is a beautiful looking film, and not without some charm buried into it. I just think it takes a LOT of patience to fully appreciate, patience that I don’t necessarily have. The humourous payoffs are too few and far between – the pacing dreadful. If you’re going to see this, bring your dinner along to theatre on a cheap Tuesday night, make sure it’s a big screen so as to enjoy the full beauty of Versailles, and don’t even think about seeing it on DVD because you will surely be asleep before she is even crowned queen.
