I watched it three times. Each time became a different situaton and a different understanding. I also watched it while inhibited by different LEGAL mind altering substances. Each substance gave a different perspective on what I had previously thought.

they really dont make movies with complex plots like this anymore...the movie is pretty sad....and pretty cool at the same time...sci fi, fantasy and drama all in one.

this is my favorite movie. i can understand that someone might simply not like it for whatever reason, but not liking a movie provides no merit for criticism of a film's mechanics or screenwriting. those were completely stable and sound in this movie. the connections between the past, present, and future weren't flimsy. they were deeply rooted together. the present provides doors to the past and future. the past comes from izzy's book, and the future comes from tommy's dreams. i remember sitting through the credits, absolutely floored at how well it all came together in the end. as for only "scratching the surface" of certain ideas.....that's completely untrue. he tackled immortality and the endurance of love and he took those ideas deeper than most ever have. at the end, tommy is happy, crying, "i'm going to die. i'm going to die." he realizes that in death, one is not existing without the other. they are "together" because they aren't separated by the barrier of mortality. and it wasn't about god, whoever said that.

it's odd that you guys liked Requiem for a Dream better because even though it was raw and biting, it was still undeniably amateur. yet you still feel the need to pick apart this film, when it is clear that aronofsky has progressed exponentially.

i strongly recommend this film to anyone with time to pay attention. if anything, the soundtrack makes it all worth it. clint mansell is brilliant.

it was so touching in a girly kinda way for me. kinda pulled on the heart strings. i had no problem following the whole thing, the idea was very nicely put together, the torture of loss was portrayed flawlessly, and the graphics were very stimulating. it's one of those thought provoking movies. i couldn't give it any other rating besides 5 stars.

!!!***RPG***!!!

I really enjoyed the visuals and the story over all...Its funny that older people these days try to "stop" the effects of time (face lifts, surgical alterations, etc...)...in essence searching for that illusive "fountain of youth"...

i found it kinda boring... tho quite aesthetically pleasing.

it jumped too much and i still doing get the point. I mean i get "love is eternal" blahblahblah but I just don't see it. I get all the points in it aswell, like the search of immortality etc etc etc god whatever. It just scratched the surface of those ideas. the dialog just didn't do it for me.

I loved this movie. The only reason I can find that anyone wouldn't enjoy it or would be bored by it is a lack of understanding. It hits on some good philosophical thought, the human condition; the god complex, immortality, the pursuit of the unattainable, all that good stuff. It was beautifully done with great artistic visuals and it taps into the psyche of the main character, melding god, ego, love and pain together. If you wanted to see another mediocre 'fountain of youth' action movie, then this id deffinately not for you, but if you're into thought provoking, existential philosophy and the like, then I would reccomend watching it.

I thought The Fountain was a spectacular film. Aronofsky delivered a great storyline once again and seamlessly intertwined the past, present and future in this head tripping ride from the 1500's to modern day and beyond.

On par with his other quality films (Pi, Requiem for a Dream), The Fountain left me piecing together the whole store days after I left the theatre.

If anything, you have to see the trailer at least. One of my favorite movies this year.

Having been a big fan of Aronofsky’s last film – Requiem for a Dream, I was severely disappointed with The Fountain and found myself unable to stop tearing it apart in the days that followed. I'm not the least bit surprised it got boo'd at the Venice Film Festival.

It is nothing more than a self-indulgent directorial venture in which the only thing that could’ve crossed Aronofsky’s mind was “look how pretty I can make this” because that’s all there is to it. The story was not the least bit engaging, the connection between past/present/future was flimsy at best and every character completely unlikable.
