People that gather the teeniest smattering of info then presume to talk down to regular, unassuming viewers piss me off.
Rizi, actually you are incorrect. Many theories abound with the mist world, one of which that they die and enter their own personal hell.
This is wrong in the way that the mist world is just a perception, the strength of which is determined by your own personal demon, your own inner 'god'(The inner hate and anger and negative feelings aimed at the real world and it's people).
The stronger your god, the stronger your subconcious influences the way you see the world, and the way others around you see your world.
When your own personal incubus(derived from the word incubator, not the mythic demon) becomes it's strongest you perceive the "nightmare" world- flesh peeling from the walls, rusty and such.
If you die in the nightmare world, your conciousness stays there, but your body dies.
If you die in the misty world, you die, your mind is not pulled through to the nightmare.
Explaining the scene at the end, when Rose gets her daughter back, she fulfills the hope she held on to through the movie. If sharon had died, rose would have become filled with despair, strengthening the incubus enough that rose would become trapped forever in meatland.
But since she didn't rose was allowed to return home, although she brought some of silent hill with her, which I believe isn't the town itself, but instead a property of the town which can unlock your demon, which you then take with you.
PS: The next person that says they died at the end is going to get a hearty smack from me.
PPS: Pyramidhead's real name is xuchilbara, and his purpose is to make you pay for the sins you never atoned for.

The thing is alot of people don't get it. The Mother and daughter die in the car accident and then enter into Hell (Silent Hill) and have to escape. Hence why the husband smells her perfume

This movie is boss!
I've never played the Silent Hill game series but I'm sure this is very exact in the way it was filmed/directed.
I love how the lead role was switched from a father who loses his daughter, to a mother. Strong female characters kick ass!!
My only complaint is not enough Pyramid Head </3 !!!

I thought this movie was well put together. The fact that a lot of people don't realize is this... When they get in the accident. They are dead! That is why they see the changes to the landscape and the Hellish like creatures.
Overall. Two sexy ladies. Some good acting. Very nice hellish creatures. I give it a 4.

An incredible movie. I've always been a huge fan of the game series, and i thought changing the storyline around would hurt it. And it did, but not so much so its cool. Plus the movie kept the original songs and that was awsome.

Amazing movie and the soundtrack was just great.
I feel that the movie capture the feeling/environment the Silent Hill series gives off.
I've played them all and can say that watching the movie gave me the same eerie feeling as if I was there as the games did.
The ending could've been better but aside from that, it was more than I expected.
Oh and screw you to those who didn't like it.

The CG was amazing and the little girl played her role charmingly.
The plot was enticing and the atmosphere was definitely eerie.
The turnout was satisfying as well, which is pretty rare. (The act is always so much worse than the revenge.)
Even the soundtrack owned me!

The movie was done really well, but the ending was kinda confusing. But if you've ever played the 1st silent hill game for PS1 and beaten the different endings the game has, the ending of the movie makes a little more sense, not much though. But all in all, i thought it was a good movie.

NOT as thrilling and story-driven as the games...but considering it was a PREQUEL...it's exactly as we hoped it would be. Great story, somewhat chilling and grotesque. Great experience. If you like the movies, I suggest you try playing the game. Although parts 2 and 3 were quite dull, part 4 was very interesting to say the least

It was definately a good take on the game. The style and technique that actually went into the behind the scenes is extremely interesting if any of you get the chance to check out the special features. Creepy, intense. I watched it twice.

You shouldn't have to play the bloody game (or read a bloody book) just to enjoy a movie.
Look at SIN CITY. Tons of people loved that, but few ever read the comics.
SILENT HILL however just fell flat. The story-line was mundane, the characters had *5 minutes* worth of development. The final scenes made no scene.
Some little girl was tortured. Kids or tortured in other countries DAILY but that doesnt mean Satan comes down and destroys their town and gives the kid super powers.
Maybe that just spoiled the movie but really, it was no shocker anyway.
The FX and visuals were the only thing I'd give it the 3 star rating.
Overall, from someone who is an AVID horror movie (but not video-games) fan, it was mediocre. An ok rainy day movie with some decent gore.

It was a disturbing, visually stunning flick.
Uwe Boll needs to watch this and take notes, THIS IS HOW YOU ADAPT A GAME TO THE BIG SCREEN.
I saw it three times in the theatres. Every time I made sure to see it alone and as early as possible. That way there was nobody else in the theatre and I got maximum creepiness.
By the way, to whoever said the baby sequence looked too animated, watch the special features. Not one single solitary creature with the exception of the ending sequence is computer animated.
Five very well deserved stars. My only regret is that I can't give it more.

I'm a big fan of the games, I played them before I watched the movie. I thought they stuck to the games perfectly, minus a few character changes, but oh well. It looked SO MUCH like the game and the monsters were awesome. Pyramid head was my favorite monster in the game and in the movie. I thought they stuck very well with the original game... like they didn't stray far and completly change everything. I loved it, I bought it the day it came out. One of my top favorites.

Someone stated that this was probably the best video game to movie that has been produced so far, and I have to agree. To those who know the game, they obviously will have a greater appreciation for the movie, to those who don't know the game. . .well. . .to be perfectly honest. . .it's a coin flip. You'll hate it, or you'll love it. If you're looking for horror. . .you won't get it. There's nothing really "scary" in this movie. Suspense? Yes. Horror? No. Creepy? Little girls that catch on fire and say "i'm on fire" creep me out, so yes. Oh and if you hate religion in movies, then maybe Silent Hill isn't for you. It kinda throws in the whole religious flavour your way near the end there. 
After watching the movie I heard the greatest quote. It being "I just wanna go home and hug my wife".
