the graphics awesome but the story line and plot horrible, if you've watched this movie and apply what happen to all the people that were enslave or there land was stolen or someone is trying to take it and add the Hollywood- happy ending bullshit then you have this world history and a predicable movie. Truly a fable
Monday March 15, 2010 - 4:53 PM
decent enough movie. story was predictable as fuck, but the visuals were pretty. overall i think it was worth the $13.
Monday March 15, 2010 - 9:25 AM
Gung ho Americana, great visuals, but other then that it was way too long. At least there wasn't any big blue electric dongs like watchmen. 1 star.
Saturday March 13, 2010 - 10:21 PM
I'd so bang the blue chicks
other than them and the graphics, this movie sucked.
Saturday March 13, 2010 - 6:23 PM
Wednesday March 10, 2010 - 5:50 PM
Wow, I love how there are Internet scoffers - who say things like 'this movie was shit! , this was recycled crap' blah blah blah. Some of the greatest stories ever told have been based on Classic tales- so what?
So I guess it must be a fluke that its the number one Movie of all time. The Film was meant to be seen in Imax or 3D. For the person that said Alice in Wonderland was better?! wtf are you smoking? Not even Johnny Depp could save that - nice safe film that flowed predictably right till the end. It was only decent for me after seeing it in Imax.
I liked Avatar but watched it for more the visual side of things. It is not Gone with the Wind, but its certainly no zero out of 5.
Monday March 08, 2010 - 6:56 PM
I think this movie was utter crap.
This was a white guy's take on colonialism, and a white guy's interpretation on what being Native and aboriginal might be like. It's rife with stereotypes and ultimately it's just a blockbuster movie with some great digitalized scenes in it.
And even the effects...were very disney-looking. If I'm gonna go to a 3D movie (and I love the fuckers, so I will) I'd rather it be trippy imagery like Burton's Alice in Wonderland, then this Disney-fied nonsense. BTW, Alice was ten times better in terms of the visuals, in my opinion.
Use some imagination, for fuck sakes! So this is another planet and another species, and yet the three major differences between us humans and this new species, is that they are bigger, blue-r and have bigger ears? Comeon!
Monday March 08, 2010 - 7:20 AM
Dances with Wolves with blue people.
Also, the graphics, the plot, and a lot of small details are all stolen.
Shame on you, James Cameron.
Tuesday March 02, 2010 - 11:19 AM
umm... graphics were good. thats about it
extremely over-rated
the plot was literally white people taking over the indians land, and the indians are the blue people that live in trees and have their tribal singing and what not
its kind of racist actually
not gonna lie i fell asleep for the entire second half so it may have gotten better but the first half, SUCKED. BALLS
Saturday February 27, 2010 - 11:26 PM
Fantastic movie with a plot that is all too true. For those who say the storyline sucked, remember that this isn't just some lofty sci-fi flick... it's a strong cautionary tale and the events depicted in it are more real than some of you might realize.
At risk of turning my movie review into some sort of activist rant.... fuck it... I don't care. People need to know about this.
There are un contacted indigenous people in scattered locations around the world who are undergoing the same kind of wholesale slaughter depicted in the film, but with no flying animals or mysitcal powers to help them. In Brazil and elsewhere, ranchers, mining and logging companies pay mercenaries to slaughter villages so that when they go in to rape the natural resources, no one stands in their way by making land-claims.
All so we can drive SUVs and have nice furniture... Well done.
Sorry to be a downer but the stuff we do (and we're all a part of it unless we make the decision not to be) is deplorable, and this movie just reminds me of it. It makes me sad and angry
More information on un-contacted tribes here on earth:

Back to the movie; I loved it. It could have had a few less Hollywood cheeseball moments but all in all very, very well done... although if the 300m film budget was spent to fix the problems the movie portrays (deforestation, aboriginal issues), the world could be much better off.
Wednesday February 17, 2010 - 11:49 AM
I really enjoyed this movie. I was very unsure going into it because I'm not a huge Sigourney Weaver fan, but I have to admit she did a great job in this movie. I would watch it again
Tuesday February 16, 2010 - 10:46 AM
Saw it in 3D at the IMAX, mmm mindblowing, only downside was those annoying glasses.....TG for good seats lol
So how long till they bust out with a sequel? 2 yrs? 3?
Safe money says they've already started it, after seeing how much they've made with the first one.....
And tyvm, no blue schlong.....lol
Monday February 15, 2010 - 9:00 AM
Good movie, but way to bloody long. does it really take 15 min to kill the guy, snap his little bitch neck
Wednesday February 10, 2010 - 4:27 PM
love love love. watch all the film makers jack the idea and start making similar films... just watch...
Tuesday February 09, 2010 - 6:52 PM
lame sauce.
soooo overrated. when i heard some guy died of a heart attack from watching the movie i expected a piece of art james cameron has delivered in the past, but this was definitely a let down.
the graphics were dope, but the storyline was gay. too many cheese-it moments, the drama was clearly dragged out too much for all the retards out there who have trouble understanding in-between-the-lines-emotion that good films deliver.
the 3D was even crappier than when i was in grade 2 and went to disney land to see "honey i shrunk the kids" in 3D, and that was HOW MANY YEARS AGO???
my 3d glasses kept falling off my face cuz i have glasses. then to make it all worse, my neck and back was tensed up SO MUCH through the whole movie cuz westmount's new seats are fucking HORRIBLE
the choice of actors were LAME. chick from fast & the furious? lame. sigourney weaver (aliens... love her) but LAME. keep her in the good movies please. robot dude from grandma's boy (love him) but LAME
AND HOW THE FUCK DOES TITUS TURN INTO A PLANT & EARTH ENVIRONMENT?? the whole moon is nothing BUT ICE... water planet PEOPLE... no trees. LAME
and the sad part is that this movie was based on the whole virtual real life 3D games that started a few years ago, and that people who are in happy healthy relationships actually lose their lives to the gaming worlds, fall in love with fake characters and it destroys lives and families. SUPER LAME
and now they're making a sequel?? i shall not be visiting the theatre for this one. i'd rather watch julie & juliet on vhs
Tuesday February 09, 2010 - 1:36 PM
I was entertained from the beginning to end. Everyone said 'its so good' and I assumed they meant just the graphics. But aside from that I liked the story, it flowed well, none of it was boring. It was like the normal action packed fantasy movie but just looking way cooler.
Saturday February 06, 2010 - 6:37 PM
Fern gully on a different planet. Instead of faries it's blue people.
Saturday February 06, 2010 - 2:04 AM
It was a good movie but for the most expensive budget made movie of all time (allegedly), I would expect more.
For 300 million dollars to make a movie, I want to walk out of it like a new person. I want my perspective on any given thing to be a million times more than what it ever has been before. Fuck that, 300 million times more than what it ever has been before.
Get that through your head... this movie cost at least 200 million, possibly 300 million to make. My favorite movies of all time, the movies that define me as a person today are in the single digit millions.
In terms of how much it cost to make, this movie sucked. It's great eye candy. I could watch it many times over just for the visual effects, but I'm not the kind of person who watches a movie just to be visually fireworked.
I've watched movies that made me want to be a different person, that opened my eyes to things I never even thought about before. This movie, I came out the same person I went in. There was nothing inspiring to me about it, it was just visual entertainment. The story was honestly a basic outline of how bad our society has become about separating reality from impossibility.
I'm not going to go further without giving away spoilers but the depth of the storyline lacked and the aversion to human nature was intense to the point that I would rather be an alien in this movie than a human. And that really was the storyline, that being a human was pretty much evil.
I walked out feeling disgusted with myself more than I felt in any way moved.
Not to mention, I could think of a lot of better ways to spend 300 MILLION FREAKING DOLLARS!!!!!!! Are you f'ing serious?
Friday February 05, 2010 - 1:43 PM
Wednesday February 03, 2010 - 10:51 PM
The movie was pretty...I wish there was some sort of actual plot though. Absolute crap in that regard and yes, that does matter!
Monday February 01, 2010 - 3:18 PM
Visually stunning, and though the story line has been done before, the way it was done in this movie made it better. I could have done without the 3d - it didn't really make the experience better for me (3d usually gives me headaches, and did this time too).
Definitely worth the $8. Went to a matinee so that made it automatically cheaper. I'm going to see it again in a couple weeks. Hopefully they're also showing it without 3d.
The flying scenes made me want to fly!!!
Sunday January 31, 2010 - 10:58 AM
I liked the part with all the furries.
Saturday January 30, 2010 - 10:12 PM
It was ok for what it was, nothing terrible. Nothing mind blowingly amazing either. The 3-D was better than what we've seen from "3-D" movies of the past, but the story seemed somewhat lackluster and has been done before...many times.
Good for James Cameron for beating his old record previously set by Titanic (which I have yet to see, and probably could care less if I ever do...and I like DiCaprio as well as Winslet to an extent).
Avatar didn't waste my 3 hours or $12 but it's not likely something I would ever go out of my way to watch again.
Saturday January 30, 2010 - 4:24 PM
saw it once tripping and again, not tripping... oh the colors. i wish this movie could stay in theaters forever. that way, i could see it a hundred times more. beautiful graphics, eye opening storyline, and a kick ass ending fight scene, made this movie the best ive ever seen.
Friday January 29, 2010 - 10:24 PM
Thursday January 28, 2010 - 3:26 AM
Fantastic movie with great graphics and story line. I would definitely recommend this movie. Its a must see!
Sunday January 24, 2010 - 11:43 PM
Amazing movie.
Amazing graphis
and amazing how the whole thing story is just a metaphore for how our corporations are working for profit not humanity right here in our world.
Also anyone else notice the blue "Motion tracker" screens were the same as in "Aliens" thought that was cool.
Saturday January 23, 2010 - 11:26 PM
I thought it was pretty good and the animation was amazing...I saw it in 3D but not in iMAX but it was still pretty cool to watch
Friday January 22, 2010 - 8:50 PM
The story was just a rehash of the old "White Messiah" story (white guy goes into the native village, becomes the best native of all the natives, leads the natives to fight off the other white people), along the lines of "Pocahontas" or "Fern Gully." But then, most stories are based on just a few main themes. It's all in how you tell it - or in this case, show it.
The acting was excellent, the writing was clever if at times overdone (the corporate executive was a little over the top), and of course, the CGI was absolutely stunning. Absolutely a movie I would see again.
Also, bonus points to James Cameron for making a movie that isn't "Titanic."
Friday January 22, 2010 - 9:07 AM
I was expecting more. everyone hyped it up so much ... just reminded me of pocahontas. and the 3dness of it all welll not that cool.
wasn't realistic enough. i mean the ending: "come on!" I'd think 'something' but come on! TREEHUGGERS VS. THE ARMY...who'd win?! tell me... who'd win?!
i'm giving it 4 stars because the CGI was incredible.
Monday January 18, 2010 - 1:50 PM
of course the story wasn't original, but who cares....that's hollywood for you...
5 stars for the 3d experience alone.
Sunday January 17, 2010 - 11:15 PM
great movie. borrowed from almost every other good movie in existence. in a good way. 5stars bitches
Sunday January 17, 2010 - 2:01 PM
100%, best movie ever...
New world to explore for sure.
my god, i fucking loved it.
Sunday January 17, 2010 - 6:11 AM
Probably one of the best movies I've ever seen in my life!!
Even the way the characters skin interacted with each other was done so well!! Like it was real...
Definitely worth seeing and 3D made the whole movie just like this Epic adventure!!
Saturday January 16, 2010 - 12:23 AM
Amazing. A whole new world to explore!
Friday January 15, 2010 - 1:36 PM
I LOVED the effects and all the work put into that
but as stated in previous reviews
the story wasn't exactly original
its back to one of those human
see want conquer/destroy or destroy/conquer
been done
but overall I REALLY enjoyed it
I will def own this movie when it comes out
Thursday January 14, 2010 - 6:31 PM
AMAZING. But if you're going to do it, it has to be done right - IMAX + 3D
Thursday January 14, 2010 - 12:49 PM
Wednesday January 13, 2010 - 11:22 PM
if i could give this more stars i totally would. so yea i wanted to see this since it was released but everyone says that if i were to go see it i had to see it on the Imax in 3-D but only problem with Imax is last movie i saw there i thought i was gunna go deaf and i also manage to get migraines at like 90% of the movies i see there. but today i was in a foul foul mood and my gf got free movie vouchers so we went and upgraded to Imax and what i saw on the screen is very hard to explain cause well its basically 1 of the greatest movies ive ever seen and believe me ive seen a lot of movies. the effects and cgi were unreal, the story line made me think about how the US Government treated the Native Amaricans through out history, there were parts that almost made me tear up cause i felt like i connected to some of the inhabitants of the planet. so yea i advise anyone whom hasnt seen this film to go!!
Monday January 11, 2010 - 10:55 PM
Fucking best movie i have ever seen hands down saw it in IMAX 3d
Monday January 11, 2010 - 8:12 PM
Bombdiggity...
glad i saw it in 3d...had a mini nap in the middle of the movie..all goods i woke myself up to watch the rest
soo tripy and the colours were so vibrent<3
Monday January 11, 2010 - 5:02 PM
@Atrina
Don't get me wrong, I loved the movie, but neither the acting or the story were world changing.
Both were better when it was Dances With Wolves
Monday January 11, 2010 - 11:09 AM
I only saw it because I saw the making of on HBO and wanted to see what all the hype was about with the special effects.
But OMFG!
Not only were the special effects out of this world, but the acting was unimaginable and the plot was world changing.
I'm not into fantasy/scifi or military movies, but the ability for this movie to cater not only to men AND women equally, but children and adults equally.
This will be one of those movies people talk about for years. If you haven't seen it yet, you're missing out. I hate going to the theater but with this movie, I would see it 10 times or more.
Sunday January 10, 2010 - 11:20 PM
Went in thinking it would be a nerdy overdone scifi flick...came out mind blown. Definitely in the top 5 best movies of all time. 3d was fun but it would have still be great without it.
Nuff Said.
Sunday January 10, 2010 - 6:10 AM
absolutely mindblowing
its Fern Gully on roids
Saturday January 09, 2010 - 10:38 PM
This movie was so good.
I kind of wish I didn't have to be human now.
My ass hurt after sitting in the theatre for so long, but it was worth it cause it kept my attention the whole time.

Saturday January 09, 2010 - 10:38 AM
this movie was pocahontas in space
I dont know what else to say
all the up and down and swaying made me feel like I was going to puke
Saturday January 09, 2010 - 10:06 AM
great movie.
Love this flick. Made a point of seeing it in imax. I had to get there an hour early but it was worth the wait to get good seats.
I didn't know anything about the flick before I saw it which might have helped.
When it was over I downloaded this flick and watched it again but its the new technology... that makes yours eyes dance.. to this great but familiar story about good and evil.

Good job James, good job.
Tuesday January 05, 2010 - 7:25 PM
I AM GOING TO BECOME ONE ONE DAY JUST YOU WATCH <33333 mmmm
Tuesday January 05, 2010 - 3:34 PM
I loved how easily I got lost in this movie.
Sunday January 03, 2010 - 5:10 PM
This movie is only OK. dialog was painful to listen to. you cant argue against the special effects though. but the story, yeah i think we ALL get it, Europeans fucked over the Native Americans. honestly i dont see what the big deal about this movie is. now on the other hand had i been tripping while i watched it, i probably would have shit my pants all over the theater
Sunday January 03, 2010 - 3:15 PM
Saturday January 02, 2010 - 10:41 PM
Avatar is by far my new favourite film.
The 3D was a bit distracting as I couldn't see past the very in-focus foreground or actor. The retreating scene was fuzzy and I wanted to focus on those details sometimes. In other times it was spot on. The forest was INCREDIBLE! Glow plants! Spinny Glow-twirly-bird creatures!
Other than that, excellent story. Better story telling. Awesome action scenes.
James Cameron should need to train the other goofs in Hollywood how to direct.
And how.
I want to be a blue earth-creature who uses my sex organs to plug into all the life around me.
Next time I do acid and you see me whip out my member and start molesting trees... Avatar...
Avatar.
Saturday January 02, 2010 - 3:51 PM
vv It's not a porn, so not everyone will like it.
I thought it was breathtaking, if not a little overdone.
And James Cameron stole the sounds of the Tyrannosaurs and Velociraptors from Jurassic Park for a bunch of his "creatures"
But still....

Thursday December 31, 2009 - 11:18 AM
standard movie plot -- but who really went for that? feeling like I was inside the movie was something I really enjoyed and as far as movies go these days, what with everyone being much harder to please, Avatar did a good job of making me feel like I didn't waste $13.
I even had to sit in the second-to-front row with my head tilted back and it didn't hinder my enjoyment in the slightest.
people who didn't like this movie seriously have some kind of superiority complex. it was ace.
Thursday December 31, 2009 - 7:30 AM
Best Movie I'v Seen in about 5-7 year's and I watch alot of movie's. So that should tell you alot right there . The acting was really good two. I can't say one bad thing about this movie. Well other then my ass being sore after the long 2 hours and 45 mins.
But the pain was worth it of course
Wednesday December 30, 2009 - 6:54 PM
This movie definitely exceeded my expectations. These days I tend to go to movies with very low expectations but Avatar is a movie I could've gone into with higher expectations and still the movie would've exceeded them.
The CGI was very well done, the 3D was interesting enough and I did not get a headache which was nice, and the plot was nothing short of engaging.
Loved it!!
Wednesday December 30, 2009 - 1:56 AM
Dear everyone: Go see this movie....several times.
It was SOOOO good...like really, really well done. It was almost three hours long, but didn't feel long whatsoever. The story was really good, I though, and there was sufficient character depth to keep you interested in all of them. It's also really sweet that they developed a new language just for the movie.
Now, the special effects were AH-MAY-ZING!!! There was really no textural difference between the CG and life action...I know seeing it in 3D made it a zillion times cooler, but even still it was just phenomenal.
In short, everything about this movie was superb! James Cameron, you're an effin genius.

Tuesday December 29, 2009 - 9:47 PM
this movie is fantastic. i have been waiting for something like this for a long, long time.
yea, Avatar elaborates on the same values and ideas that the movie Fern Gully contains, but in my opinion that doesn't take anything away from either movies.
the CGI is so aesthetically pleasing and realistic and seeing it in 3D made it even better.
parts of the story were so intense that i found myself holding back tears.
i'm glad that the movie was almost 3 hours; the plot felt very thorough and researched, and every scene seemed important. often with movies that long i get bored and feel like it could have been half that length and still get the same points across.
i definitely recommend seeing this movie, i would see this again in theatres even.

Tuesday December 29, 2009 - 12:52 PM
I DESIRE HAIR-MIND-LINK WITH DINOSAURS!
Tuesday December 29, 2009 - 3:21 AM
movie was so sick.......if u dont c it on the big screen or in 3d then ur a FOOL!!!!!
Monday December 28, 2009 - 6:30 PM
saw it in 2d OVERRATED! i think
but still wanna see it in 3D
Sunday December 27, 2009 - 11:28 PM
I liked the part with all the furries.
Sunday December 27, 2009 - 2:41 PM
i watched it on my laptop and i still love it!
Saturday December 26, 2009 - 9:16 PM
I saw NOTHING wrong with this movie, mind you the story line won't be for everyone, for those into a science-fiction gender with a sprinkle of romance, in a final fantasy world, this movie is for YOU!
It was worth my $15.00 and I'll pay it again to see it in IMAX <3
Saturday December 26, 2009 - 7:26 PM
Ya this movie was quite worth seeing in Imax 3D!
The visuals were worth it for those who didn't like the story line but it's a good one IMO ^_^
Saturday December 26, 2009 - 11:46 AM
Doesn't understand how this only got 4.5
Saturday December 26, 2009 - 2:12 AM
Saturday December 26, 2009 - 1:34 AM
Pure AWESOMENESS!!!
Loved every second of it!
Cute, creative story (although a bit predictable), artistic, and well made.
Saturday December 26, 2009 - 12:51 AM
This movie was trippy. Everything i seen was all mind illusion. Watchign this video i really thought i was apart of it. I enjoyed watchign this movie with a good buddy of mind. Movie was the sickest. Thank god i dont look liike them.
Friday December 25, 2009 - 11:16 PM
Watched it a week ago during the premiere at rainbow cinema, and once again today in I-Max 3D. My opinion haven't changed a bit, but James Cameron uses a few recurring elements from his past movies. Like the walking mechs, cryo sleep and the ship design all somehow relate to things from Aliens.
Friday December 25, 2009 - 11:03 PM
Phenomenal! This movie made me think harder, and dream bigger than any movie I have ever watched. Spectacular futuristic graphics, humbling realities, epic story!
You need to go see this movie!
Friday December 25, 2009 - 9:11 PM
went beyond my expectations
Friday December 25, 2009 - 2:12 AM
Friday December 25, 2009 - 1:13 AM
Saw this movie on a sunday afternoon...simply amazing! one of the best movies I have seen in a really long time! I encourage everyone to see it, especially in the theatres and in 3D if you can! so awesome and such an excellent message available to people that want to look deeper. Just think about clear cutting in the rain forest and destroying thousands of homes and culture of the indigenous people. Very clever movie.
oh yeah fern gully! ha! I remember now, it is similar but this message seems more powerful, I really hope younger generations are able to see it this clear!
Thursday December 24, 2009 - 9:13 PM
This was a really conventional movie that had alot of window dressing on it. The only thing about Avatar that wasn't average and predictable was the technology they used to to make it, and I suppose that it's worth going to see for that reason. Maybe now we won't have to wait more than 10 years to see James Camerons next movie now that he has developed all of this tech.
Tuesday December 22, 2009 - 7:04 PM
GREAT MOVIE! Go see it. NOW.
Sunday December 20, 2009 - 11:33 PM
1) THANK YOU JAMES CAMERON. The idea for this movie was conceived about 14 years ago. He waited for technology to get better. He did right. Stunning graphics.. I've never been so visually pleased by CGI before .
2) The story was moving. I mean yeah, I've heard of this type of scenario before.. it's almost like FERN GULLY, I know, but the way everything was put together made me melt. I felt emotional. Wow.
3) Sigourney Weaver kicks ass in this movie. So does Sam Worthington. Best long movie EVER.
Funny, James Cameron has made me cry again. He did it with Titanic, and he did it with Avatar.
I'm not good at these review shits, GO SEE THE MOVIE. I DOUBT YOU'LL BE DISAPPOINTED!
