heres the thing... the original clerks was created with such a strongly apparent sense of independent film, in that the dialogue was so genuine, and there was no feeling of the movie making any attempt to appeal to the general audience. Clerks 2, however, if you really pay attention to it, has been strongly adapted to the general public's level of humor and attention to detail, with only a few references to the same breed of comedy seen in the original.
by regular movie standards, it would have been a 5/5, but it seems like Mr. Smith made this movie more for the money produced by the mass audience than as a work of art.

i thought this movie was great.
i'm a huge smashing pumpkins fan, so while they did their whole 1979 musical number that completely meshed with the video, i couldn't help but sing along. i'm sure my piercer thought that was hilarious from the way he kept looking at me and laughing.

2 and a half stars really.
While the porch monkey thing made me roll in the aisles, the movie itself was exactly the sequel to the first Clerks.
That being said, I found it hard to identify with 30-something characters who never dug their way out of the slacker generation.
If this was supposed to be a commentary on the societal lack of meaning within the job market, and the moral of the story being: your friends and loved ones are more important than sucess and "respect" then it was yet another mediocre movie within that same framework.
If on the other hand it was merely a piece of funny, to entertain those who follow Kevin Smith with passion, then it was yet another along the lines of dick and fart joke humour.
I must say though, that the line, "There is only one Return, and that's of the Jedi!" Made that movie rock.

It was funny in parts but it didn't have the "depth" if you can call it that of the first movie. Even so it was an enjoyable flick. The best part was deifnitely when Randal, Jay and Silent Bob scream a metal song at the geeky kid.

This movie was very funny however it did not have the magic of the first Clerks. It didn't have that level of quality found in the first movie.

i always loved the clerks movies.
i was sad to see dante was looking old. but him and silent bob are my favourite.

Kevin Smith's coming of age movie for the edging 40 crowd has absolutely underwhelmed me. I don't know what to say: I went to this movie with a group of friends, smoked a joint before hand, walked in pumped, mentally readied myself for a Smith comeback flick and...
Had to watch in horror as the group of people I was with not only didn't laugh at the jokes 13 year-olds are now grasping and weren't swayed the heartfelt dialogue that Charlie Kaufman's shit could have wrote, then shit on. Contrived Generic Shit.
They made me walk out 3/4 in. They wouldn't stay for the ending. THE ENDING.
Sorry Mr. Smith, the only reason this thing is going to get a rewatch is for Rosario Dawson. And Smith, keep your wife out of your flicks, it demeans us all.
p.s - The epilogue of this review has yours truely still bitter at Kevin Smith for no-showing an appearence at my film school. I guess Smith's legecy will forever be known as That 90's Director.
