Two punks live in Salt Lake City. The film covers their all-day routine. The realism of the character-narrated movie may be discussed. One of the punks gets ill, stays in hospital for three weeks, comes out again. Three parties are covered and one concert including a fight between punks, rednecks and others.
Stevo: Wait, time out. I just wanted to ask real quick, if I can. You believe in rebellion, freedom and love, right?
Mom: Absolutely, yes.
Dad: Rebellion, freedom, love.
Stevo: You two are divorced. So love failed. Two: Mom, your a New Ager, clinging to every scrap of Eastern religion that may justify why the above said love failed. Three: Dad, you're a slick, corporate, preppy-ass lawyer. I don't really have to say anything else about you do I dad? Four: You move from New York City, the Mecca and hub of the cultural world to Utah! Nowhere! To change nothing! More to perpetuate this cycle of greed, fascism and triviality. Your movement of the people, by and for the people got you... nothing! You just hide behind some lost sense of drugs, sex and rock and roll. Ooooh, Kumbaya! I am the future! I am the future of this great nation which you, father, so arrogantly saved this world for. Look, I have my own agenda. Harvard, out. University of Utah, in. I'm gonna get a 4.0 in damage. I love you guys! Don't get me wrong, it's all about this. But for the first time in my life, I'm 18 and I can say "FUUUUUCK YOU!"

Meh, its unrealistic, badly written, badly acted, and is the source of thousands of idiots who want to be "just like the movie." This did for the punk scene what The Craft did for the pagan community.
PS - that much acid wouldn't fuck you up for more than two or three days unless you are a schitzo.

What a terrible movie. whether or not the main character was a poser the fact was he was living his life the way he wanted to, and he was living by his own rules with his own morals.
The movie had its moments and it does accuretelly capture how elitist the counter culture is. But my complaint with the movie is at the end because basically all its saying is your a poser no matter what and if you don't sell out and conform you'll end up a bumb on the street.

Thats why the hippie movement failed because at the end of the day everyone sold out and werent willing to be a martyr for something they claimed to believe in so strongly.
This movie is basically a slap in the face to all countercultures not just punks.

Really really funny movie. I had so much fun watching it. I liked the whole journey of it. Flash backs to when they were kids and the progression up to the last big event. When i saw it i was past my "punk" phase but i still liked it a lot.

Amazing movie! Ive seen it like 30 times and i never get tired. The characters are all very unique and interesting. Hilarious plot all the way through. I give it 73 amputated thumbs ups!

I have to admit that the movie was interesting, it wasn't one of my favourite movies. I had heard so much about it before I watched it... and it was in a dark basement after three days of partying at WEMF so I hardly remember it... but from what I do, it just seemed o.k...

One of my favs that I have on video. Just a great film and anybody that likes punk music will probably like this movie. My fav scene is when the one kid is running from the cops with the ACID in his pocket. Then he trips out and goes insane! Funny scene. The movie has a sort of sad ending but it's classic and I recommend this film with five stars. Two thumbs up!

Well a movie that i could stand to see and then fall in love with it./.to the comment about how Bob dies ... ya it did suck that he died but it didn't make a diffrence on how i felt about the movie.. i see some of the same things that go on in that movie with every one still today... the bad part about that, the kids ... the younger ones are doing that same shit... but they don't know how what to do with the stuff ... .hell there are so many kids just dieing from rolls left and right, because they push there self just to get a little bit more of intense feeling.. . welll ... this movie is my fav, but i can't find it any were and all the movie stores from the woods i am from never seen it... so if some one close around could make a copy for me, it would be the sweetest thing ever done for me... it is really my most fav.. and i have not been able to watch it for over a year now.. .

I watched this movie way too many times.
The acting is unbeatable, it's wickedly funny and tragic as well.
I don't necessarily agree with the turnout, but the rest of the movie was too good to be ruined by the end.

This has always been a "classical favourite" of the "punk rockers" of today.
I didn't like it for the fact that it supposedly "outlined punk rock".
I liked parts of it for the different comical aspects, and the sad aspects.
..but anyone who says that this movie is their favourite because it "outlines punk rock", should be tied up, gagged and made to watch the teletubbies over and over again.
