Friday June 27, 2008 - 3:35 AM
if you like this movie, check out slacker. Linlater's film from 1990. I think it's almost an essential accessory to waking life.

fucking horrible. nice artistic concept but I really hate anything involving druggie philosophy and the attempt to spiritualize science.
those of you douchebags that think this movie is deep and intellectual are idiots.
If you want some good druggie philosophy read William S. Burroughs.
You people make me sick.
Sunday June 22, 2008 - 1:58 PM
Amazing concept, beautiful artwork throughout. Love how every scene was transitioned by different artists. The subject matter was heavy and really interesting, well done.
AMAZING TO WATCH ON MUSHROOMS. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
Sunday June 22, 2008 - 12:05 PM
Definitely one of my all time favorite films. I watched it like 3 times in a row, just to absorb everything. It might be an hour and a half of different people rambling on about philosophy/metaphysics, and the subject matter definitely wouldn't entertain EVERYONE. but it made so much fucking sense to me it was ridiculous. It was like a mushroom trip or something. hahaha, basically, I love it.
Wednesday June 18, 2008 - 6:57 PM
ball trip and a fuckin half
i love the way this movie was done
the cartoon style was very cool
definate acidity
Wednesday June 18, 2008 - 4:03 PM
Great movie. Bottom line. Pretenious? youre fucking crazy dude. Keep reading your books, maybe one day you'll realize you've wasted your own waking life.
This movie is nothing but ear opening. It has made thousands of people question, and millions to come. How is that not genius? To know is to question and to know that you don't know something. Don't be fooled by people trying to tell you that this movie is some attempt to be a work of art. IT IS A WORK OF ART. it is obvious in and throughout itsself in its theories and in its dispursal of its theories.
Watch this movie over and over and over. Part by Part. Stoned or sober, whichever is your poison. THe is a must see. Even if to say I just wasted My waking life.

Monday June 16, 2008 - 9:58 PM
Meh, the animations that were rendered were interesting, but let's be serious it's not enough to ramble on about philosophy for an hour and call it, insightful, introspective or innovative. A movie needs a good story line. As a major of philosophy I found that it was a pretentious attempt that relied on common dilemma's and debates in metaphysics as a backdrop to the film. Philosophy can have some bearing in reality, it's nonsense like this that makes scholars and learned individuals to assert that philosophy is a dying study. You want insightful read some Mackie, On Subjectivity. If it doesn't blow your fucking balls out of the water I don't know what will.
Monday June 16, 2008 - 8:42 PM
boring and stupid
for the insipid only
want some science? read a book.

It's a little slow at first, but all around awesome movie. I love the different perspectives it offers and just the art of the movie itself.
Make sure you watch it more than once though, because you miss so much.

Friday January 12, 2007 - 8:54 AM
One of the best thought provoking independent films of all time, are we sleep walking through our waking state? Or are we wake walking through our dreams? only 7.99$ at your local future shop, see if you can spot the celebrity cameos!
Harness the power of your lucid state of mind!
Every scene conveys such a deep thought that you can stop the film and take a moment to reflect and clarify with the other viewers.
Did everyone understand the subject matter?
How can we apply it to our everyday life?
Does anyone want to go out for a smoke? This movie is like sex for the brain.
WARNING! HEAVY CONTENT! INTENSE VISUALS!
*take with appropriate dosage of LSD, {probly what the director intended}

Thursday January 11, 2007 - 5:51 PM
the animation is way too hard on the eyes. it takes away from the movie.
Thursday January 11, 2007 - 4:41 PM

Saturday November 11, 2006 - 1:13 AM
This movie was amazing.
At first, in all honesty, I thought something was wrong with the colour and picture of my TV. Then I undertood.. and was fascinated. I totally recommend this movie to everyone.

Friday November 10, 2006 - 10:57 PM
This movie is both a visual and philosophical masterpiece. Truly a work of art I have yet to see duplicated well. At first view it leaves you reaching for the dictionary, rewinding sences, and just trying to soak in the shapes in front of your eyes. get ready to expqnd your mind. This is one of my home owned films.
Friday October 13, 2006 - 10:22 PM
Great movie. Most striking at first glance is the rotoscoping. It was all shot on digital, then painstakingly painted over, frame by frame, to produce a dreamy, cartoony-yet-real animation.
Mostly talking heads talking about heady subjects: existentialism, quantum physics and how it relates to Free Will, transhumanism and the exponential growth of technological/civilizational development, Spinoza's concept of God-in-Nature and how it relates to Boudin's filmmaking, Absurdism, the collective unconscious, lucid dreaming, Philip K. Dick and the concept of Gnosticism, Alex Jones being aggressively optimistic, etc etc etc...
There's barely a loose narrative to this movie; you have been warned. Watch this movie if you like to think. If you like to be led by hand through the Hollywood Garden of Intro-Conflict-Tradegy-Climax-Redemption, then pass Waking Life by.
This movie is to existential nausea as a canteen full of water is to a man dying of thirst. Man, it's been a while - I'm going to pop this in right now.
Sunday October 08, 2006 - 1:19 PM
Turned it off after like ... 15 min. and I'd really like those 15 min. back.
Sunday October 01, 2006 - 12:06 PM
This is one of my favorite movies. I never get sick of watching it. The way the movie was filmed is simply awesome and made the movie that much more enjoyable. All the people the man talks to durning the movie have interesting things to say. I liked most when the main charator engaged in conversation about dreams.
