Storyline: Brilliant, pixar's strength (after their cg) is their storytelling ability. This includes not only both the action and dialogue, of course, but the expressions and movement and other classic techniques which have been developed over decades. A lot of people who worked on this probably went to sheridan too. Some really hilarious scenes as well.

Animation/CG: Some of the best I've ever seen and I've seen a lot. The water scenes, the rain on wet cobblestones, wine pouring and sloshing around in the glass... that shit is fucking difficult to do and it was done amazingly well. The movement when Remy is first trying to run towards the window but he cant resist stopping over and over to throw more stuff into the soup is awesome. Watch when he wafts the steam up and sniffs it with his eyes rolling up, we viewers take it for granted but that kind of movement/emotion/facial expression is what seperates great animation from good animation. everything non-organic looks realistic and most of the organic stuff looks realistic too.

Overall: I think that this is my favorite animated movie ever, so far. I have worked as a cook before, so the story hits home, and the underlying themes are also important imo.

SPOILER BELOW: great quote from the movie

In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and theirselves to our judgement. We thrive on negative criticism which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.

But there are times when a critic truly risks something, and that is in the discovery and defense of the new. The world is often unkind to new talent, new creations. The new needs friends. Last nite i experienced something new; an extraordinary meal from a singularly unexpected source. To say that both the meal and its maker have challenged my preconceptions about fine cooking is a gross understatement: they have rocked me to my core.

In the past, I have made no secret of my disdain for Chef Gusteau's famous motto "anyone can cook" but I realize, only now do I truly understand what he meant. Not everyone can become a great artist, but a great artist can come from anywhere. It is difficult to imagine more humble origins than those of the genius now cooking at Gusteau's who is, in this critic's opinion, nothing less than the finest chef in France. I will be returning to Gusteau's soon, hungry for more.

Here's an actual recipe for the contemporary ratatouille dish that was the focus of the climatic scene. It is called Confit Byaldi and was invented by an acclaimed chef named Thomas Keller.

I've heard nothing good about this movie from friends, but from the first time I saw the trailer I thought it was brilliant. The animation style is obviously one of the main attractions, but after watching it I can tell that it's something that the script is something that will never get old for me. I hate movies, especially kids movies, that lose their magic after the first viewing. It's the reason a lot of recent kids movies will never be considered classics.

But contrary to what other people have said, I think this movie perfectly matches the prototype for classic Disney movies. Just like Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and The Lion King in the rags-to-riches, extraordinary in the ordinary sort of sense.

This is easily my favorite of all the Disney-Pixar movies so far.

Great movie. I agree with the previous comment..definetly brings back that 'little kid Disney movie magic' feeling =]

very cute story. It really made me want to go eat in Paris. haha.
I like that it was entertaining for my 5 year old brother, and me too. Kids movies are really getting better these days.

It's just magic...it reminded me of the feeling I had when I was a kid and I used to watch the classical Disney movies. smile
Ratatouille is a feel good, have fun cartoon.
The story is entertaining, the voices are fantastic, the graphic is amazing. The little 'boulevards' and shops in Paris, the delicious food and the characters look very realistic.
This is the best cartoon I've seen in a while.
