Even better than the first book (Darkly Dreaming Dexter), the sequel takes you on an even wilder rollercoaster. Again, this novel could have been longer, with more detail, but Lindsey makes up for it in graphic suspense & introspection into the mind of a gentlemen serial killer. Straying completley from the Showtime series, this is a story unto itself. Although I don't recommend reading this one before the first, it's still a book I couldn't put down. I'm anxiously anticipating the next release in the series - Dexter In The Dark, due out August '07

The book that spawned the new Showtime original series DEXTER...
although the series starts in sync w/ the book, the book takes it own path down macabre lane... the story line & character development change dramatically, and although the book & first season of the series end up @ roughly the same place, they each get there in totally different ways. The author could have spent more time developing relationships & plot twists in the novel, and all in all, it was kind of short, but still very much worth the read. Don't worry that reading the book will spoil the show, because both are well worth the time spent getting into them.
