Perfect.

One of those rare instances the film lives up to the book.

Fresnadillo is no Danny Boyle.

While on it's own merits it wasn't a bad zombie film (is there such a thing?) it didn't match the intensity of the first.

The opening scene was worthy of remembrance and fit very well as a precursor to some very simple exposition and it immediately brought you into the film thinking it was going to be more of the same. Unfortunately we jump 7 months and everything has changed.

The presence of the military and the fact that they were endowed with communication this time around really changed the dynamic of the rest of the film from the first one. Save the last few minutes after blondie gets roasted. What was so special about the first one was it really brought you into this world where the characters were absolutely abandoned and disconnected from everything and how someone would react in such a situation.

This one may as well have been Resident Evil for how much we're required to suspend disbelief. The kids being able to escape the district, the fact that they found the mother, the mother was immune, the father happened to have an all access pass, there were no security checks in between. It's all just a little too much.. not necessarily in a zombie flick, cos sure.. it's a zombie flick.. but in contrast to the first, it was certainly disappointing.

Really fantastic adaptation from the novel, which in itself is a rarity these days. One of those rare occasions where the movie is worth watching and won't disappoint the reader.

..and who doesn't fucking adore Sissy Spacek? I mean come on..
