awesome sauce. I was actually glad the music wasnt everywhere. it gave a chance to go through the exhibits and actually be able to discuss and not scream my lungs off and making the end result a sore throat.
The music was good but ya 1 jungle dj would of been better. just to get a whole out variety.

but never the less being able to make a still motion movie of a popsicle robot exploding is great

and i wasnt bored and having a.d.d which i find i do alot at parties now

this is def something i would continue going to even if i didnt party anymore !
happy

It was fun. 99.5 percent of attendees were friendly coming in the door where I was stationed for the first 4 hours.

The 19+ turnout was, I believe, greater than expected. In any case, we ran out of pink wristbands and had to restock with another kind!! So I'm not surprised if the bar area was overwhelmed.

The exhibits were much as I remember them from many years past. This was my first time partying at the Science Centre and what a novel experience it was!

*reading the rest of these reviews makes me very sad. A lot of very smart, bright people.. I don't know if its because they want to believe it or just have a hard time being critical.. because all I read is smoke..

I had a decent time, unfortunately if I am being honest I have to admit that I only enjoyed this party fractionally compared to some of your other offerings

Once we were in the center, most of the exhibits were closed and there was very little direction to point you to the ones that were open. If this was my first foray into the Science Center, it would be an adventure just to find the party let alone some of the exhibits.

Although the talent was top notch, the sound system was no match for the size and accoustics of the main area. This resulted in the music losing a lot of its edge.. especially for those in the bar area.

The bar area was an absolutely brilliant idea, and had some amazing bartenders, however given the amount of traffic it was subject to it was waaay undersized and for the most part was extremely poorly executed. Perhaps that had something to do with all the teenagers who 'somehow' got "staff" stickers so that they could drink their underage faces off in front of the police, or the fact that you were sold out of Redbull by 10:30.. and were basically sold out of everything else soon after. In any event it definitely led to some major discomfort for the age of majority crowd.

I love you guys and your events stand head and shoulders over anything currently being offered in the scene but this was probably the least enjoyable offering from Newmindspace that I have attended.

The idea was a 10/10
the talent was a solid 6
the sound was somewhere around 3
the 19+ area (or should I say the 16+ area) was a 2

Looking forward to next time!

Science is beautiful.

So is Newmindspace.

Thank you for that night. smile

Music all night, plenty to explore (if you think about it, there were ONE HUNDRED PERCENT more exhibits to explore than there would have been anywhere else, so I can't imagine really needing any more exhibits open), and a great and (though I never use this word) "old school" vibe. Was great to see a lot of ravers I haven't seen in months or years come out. Hope you lot stick around for more. smile

The only reason I'm giving this five stars is because Purerave won't let me give it seven.

Wow, I simply cannot rate this event less than a perfect 5 stars.
I saw a lot of people who I hadn't seen in awhile, and it was really refreshing.
I know that a party like this ever happening again in the Science Centre is unlikely, but I hope with all my hope that it does... what an amazing night!
THANK YOU NEWMINDSPACE FOR ONE OF THE BEST NIGHTS OF MY LIFE!

From journal:
Yuri's night was... beautiful. Truly had to appreciate the venue and the work put in to making that happen for everybody. People were told all along: NOT A RAVE - and it's true - but there was music, exhibits, drinks, and friends - NOT A RAVE? Maybe, but still an awesome party. Also lets keep in mind the staff at the Science Center really don't need surprise raves happening on their (government) property. I hope their staff enjoyed the happy faces and will let something happen again, I think they know there were good intentions. And everything seemed to go off without a hitch.

Also: SCIENCE!!! "WITH THE POWER OF CHEMISTRY!!!"

I'm a disciple of science
I know the universe is compliance with natural laws,
but many place reliance on the psuedo-science of quacks and
morons and fools because,
their educations deficient,
they put faith in omniscient,
make believe beings who control their fate,
but the Hawk aint with it, dig it,
their Holy writ aint the least bit legit,
its a bunch of bullshit.

They need to read a book that ain't so damn old old,
let reason take hold,
though truth to be told,
they're probably already too far gone,
withdrawn, the conclusion foregone.
But maybe there is still hope for the young,
if they reject the dung being slung from the tongues,
of the ignorant fools who call themselves preachers,
and listen instead to their science teachers.

Upon blind faith they place reliance,
what we need more of is science!

Trash Talk
Uh yeah, that's right!
Fundamentalist assholes!
Screw the hole lot of them.

Look, I ain't thomas Dolby,
science doesn't blind me,
think you're smart? Form a line behind me,
you won't find me, truth to tell,
to be a man who suffers fools very well.
Quite the opposite in fact,
I aint got time to interact,
with crystal wearing freaks in need of a smack.
New age motherfuckers? Don't get me started,
I made more sense than them, last time I farted.

Not to put too fine a point upon it,
but the whole new age movement is full of shit.
Please allow me to elaborate,
explicate, expatiate.
from astral projection to zygomancy its a,
mish mash of idiocy.
Instead of the archaic worship of seasons,
they should explore logic and reason.

Upon blind faith they place reliance,
what we need more of is science!

Trash Talk
Fucking new-agers!
Is there any amount of bullshit they won't swallow?
It's two-thousand-aught-three goddammit!
When are these morons gonna join us in the 21st century?

Upon blind faith they place reliance,
what we need more of is science!

PS: NOT A RAVE is a rave.

first off, a lot of us old-folk who went to all the Citrus events at the Science Centre back in the late 90s, went all neo-nostalgic. hells, i saw a few people who i used to party with wayyy back when (talking 1993ish times).. can't believe they came out!

definate thanks to Newmindspace for bringing back the memories and creating new ones! i wish i wasn't stuck behind the bar til 1am.. but still had a fabulous time with fabulous people!

sidenote:
thanks everyone in the 19+ area for the understanding/great tips/etc.. we were slammed from 10 o'clock onward with no break. all the bartenders did a fabulous job considering the circumstances.. and we appreciated your patience.

another sidenote:
(Sparkle Booth) Kathy + Josh (Jelo) + Ryan (OS2) + Mike (Taipan)? seemed like a Limelight reunion lol

Well done guys, I have no clue what you had to say to get them to say yes but kudos!

I had an awesome time, round 3... ftw!

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 3:02 PM

TheTweek

GOD I had SO much fun XD Jelo's set had me dancing like crazyyyyy. I really really hope that the rumors about no more science center raves isn't true, because I would so do that again, but, like others have said -- with more exhibits, please! I enjoyed everything as it was but I was disappointed to see that the bat cave was not open.. my favourite part of the Science Center. XD

All in all I can't give this party anything less than a five. Everyone just seemed happy to be there and having a good time. Some people were a bit rude =P but what can you do.

Great night, thank you so much Newmindspace<3

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 3:01 PM

I wish more exhibits had been open, I would have liked to explore the science centre a little more.

All in all a good night though ^__^

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 1:32 PM

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 1:25 PM

Maus

Lol, it was kinda like "LOL SUPRISE RAVE LOLOLOLOL"
So I don't think there will be any more events exactly like this at the science center from what I've heard,
if there aren't, I was happy to be there for the last rave at the science center XD
If there are, sweet!
Interesting idea Newmindspace... Too bad there wasn't so much to do/explore when you weren't dancing. frown

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 1:07 PM

!!!***RPG***!!!

I thought it was SOO much fun...great venue and seeing some friends I haven't seen in ages was very special smile...Hopefully there is another party with a BIGGER 19+ wink area...

EDIT...I don't know why people expect a party like this or ANY other party in Toronto to be a "rave"....well I have some news for you because they DO NOT EXIST in Toronto anymore roll eyes ever since the "rave" laws were enacted...LONG gone are the dirty/underground/hot/warehousy REAL RAVES....there are only "parties" now OR you can go to a club to party and have some fun...if you want to go to a REAL rave then go to EUROPE

Another note is that the sound system was loud enough at this party....I mean if you want to go totally DEAF then plant your ass and ear next to a speaker at THE GUV....THIS event was at a government owned building and property...and is located right next door to residences and apartments so it could NOT be uber loud...

Its not often that a party is thrown at the SCIENCE CENTER and so I have to give HUGE props to NEWMINDSPACE to break the ice and hold a pretty good party at this venue...and to allow us to wander and check out some of the exhibits...I didn't really expect this due to liability towards the organizers of this party so to have some rooms open to us was VERY cool smile...I think we were pretty spoiled happy

And so I, for one, truly appreciate the effort made heart

SCIENCE PREVAILS!
lol

it was ok. i was hoping to see more of the science center but w.e..
maybe next time? if there's ever gonna be a next time

the vibrating chair was the best part happy

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 10:33 AM

O__________o

Why is it that the science centre is an amazing place to run around in on 2-CB??? Besides when the subwoofer are fucking amazing who doesn't love vibratting chairs... I'm not going to comment on the music due to the lack of it but still was funn to lightsaber to in the 'Tunnel of Light' ^-^ Meep. (This was not a rave it was an excuse to go to the science centre and ACTUALLY learn something...)...

Side note: Hey Newmindspace.... BOOK MORE OF THE FUCKING SCIENCE CENTRE IF YOU EVER PLAN TO DO IT AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!! Or the next rave will SUCK!... Wandering around in the same rooms and the same exibits with not enough to do for about 8 hours does get old.

Sunday April 06, 2008 - 10:25 AM

*twinkles*

Hooray for science & space!

Can't wait for the first party on the moon!
