Well what can I say,
Despise all the club issues we had for this event, I think we have pulled off a stellar party!
The most important thing to me, is seeing people smiling and dancing!
and that's all I could see from people all night long!
So no matter what I had gone through and what WE went though to put on this event, it was all worth it too see people enjoying them selves and rocking out with their cocks out!

I want to thank all of the talent for coming out and putting on such stellar sets, and for being so patient with me while we were working through those issues. You guys rock my world.

To all you boys&girls that showed up! Way to be troopers! and thank you so much for coming! With out you guys, we would be nothing!

Thank You Ashlee for working the door, you have no idea how much you saved me by doing that...thank you very much heart

HUGE Thanks to the boys at SIM for showing up and supporting, and keeping me cool when I needed to be! Much Respect!

DCS905, GME, much love boys heart

Again thank you everyone who showed and stuck it out, it's partiers like you who make me want to do this over and over again heart

dubcomm

seemingly against all odds, we pushed thru and made this event happen. right from the very start there was problems regarding the venue (opium nightclub, toronto [which i will never return to]... over the weeks of planning and promotion there was countless phonecalls made, attempts and confirmations, etc etc, and it wasnt until about a week before the event that we got "final confirmation" on the venue...

i spent saturday ripping around with my excellent group of friends who totally made my weekend by helping out so much, and putting up with my shit... we picked up more than $15,000 in sound equipment, and moved it all downtown...

arrived at the club @ just about 7pm, dropped off the gear, went to the hotel room and checked in, dropped my stuff, and got back to the club as fast as possible...

walked upstairs into a fucking SWAMP. pete & dustin had already been sweeping up the floor, and generally cleaning the spot to make it a suitable place to party... setup didn't take tooo long, although when the club owner leaves @ 8 to pick up his bartenders, and doesnt return until 9:15 (when the doors should already be open) ... then his bartenders showed, and cleaned up the upstairs bar, got stuff prepped... by now, about 10pm, we have 2 rooms of incredible sound... anyone who caught either illfingas b2b dubcomm or the 30 mins of catacomb before the rain, can attest to the fact that opium NEVER sounded so good.

so, thats that stress... now onto the music and other elements of the jam that truly made this one of the most memorable events i've ever been involved with.

because of time delays, waiting on people, etc etc, i did not get to play from 9pm-10pm... instead, when illfingas arrived, he asked if i'd like to do the set b2b with him... seeing has he is one of the few toronto originators of the dark sound, i jumped at the chance, and i must say i was really pleased with the results, our styles seem to compliement eachother, and its something i hope to do again!

following us, catacomb stepped up to the decks... jeesus. you might not know that catacomb is now a 1 man show, its too bad, but, musically, i personally think larry has developed his sound into some seriously technical, hard as fuck, amazing drum n bass... he played for 30 or so minutes before the torrential downpour began... we thought, even with a little rain, the event would go over alright, because the front 25 or so feet of the ceiling was pretty well covered... nope.

in the span of about 1 minute, i had to push a security guard out of the way to unplug a light rig, run back to the booth, cover the lasers with a tarp, ask catacomb to cut the sound and turn off the booth, and hustle with the crew to get the 1500W of subwoofer out of a 3" puddle... fucking insanity. we moved alot of the main-room sound gear into a small storage closet, and the DCS905 "main room" turned into a music-less smoking lounge...

downstairs in the exponential frequencies room, things had been running fairly smoothly, and all the dj's were on point. some played to a closed club, but, thats the nature of the beast when dealing with clubs that arent prepared for a night like this... we learned our lessons... belive that....

so, by about midnite, the STACKED 2 room event we built, had 1 small room. myself and partners in promotional crime had to figure out wtf to do, as we all had headliners waiting to play... so, with the compression of the lineups, some reduction in time to ppl's slots, we got them in. huge huge fucking sets.

nc-17 has some of the sickest tunes available to the planet. constantly on the hunt for new bits, and ALWAYS in the studio making new ones, these guys have been makin big international waves with their signature toronto sound, and they show us why every time they're behind the decks. NC-17 for life.

following nc-17, the man of the hour, MASHEEN got up to the decks..

i hope you were among the people that stuck around after the rainfall, as the vibe, and the music in this club was explosive. when masheen touched down, the crowd erupted. i know i personally spent a good 30 mins rite up front, dancing like i was 16 again. he is truly an incredible performer, and i'm really proud to be supporting his work in this city... as time goes on more and more people are turning to the darkside, and hearing masheen play can be a big help for that. its relentless energy and technical skill. untouchable.

... to each and every performer... thank you. for being so accomodating when so much crazy was happening at the event, you stuck it out, and helped make this one of the absolute best events i've ever had the pleasure of arranging.

... to the crowd. wow. i love you fuckers. everyone i saw had a smile on their face and a drink in their hand, lots of dancing, lots of laughing, maybe a little swimming too! i'm glad you stuck it out, for sheer love of the music. big the fuck up. YOU are the reason i think about doing the event thing ever again. thank you.

... to opium nightclub and staff... fix up. good luck.

... to my friends, who totally helped me keep my cool in the face of adversity, thank you. i would not have survived the nite if it wasnt for the kind, supportive words of my friends. and the excessive work, patience, and overall fucking awesomenesss that the ppl i know are.

conclusion: wow. what a fucking night. this is one for the books.

I had an awesome night...

Thanks to the promoters for the fun night. It was blast...bummer about the weather. Never heard of a club being rained out before. If only the owners made time to fill the roof rather than their noses .,. (just kidding). What can you do. Glad to read you still made time to enjoy your selfs.

Syn it was great seeing you there....fuzzboy, xofer, phil, peter, ashley, unique2100, dom and sorrelle.. miss you all... plus theres a few others I couldn't even remember it had been THAT long... I swear the less time I visit, the worst my memory gets.

Party on.. thanks for the new memories.

My quote of the night:
Bouncer at door: dude, you can come in but your entourage has to wait in line.
Mcfly: I ain't leaving my crew out here alone..I'd rather wait in line.

a little rain won't ruin our night...hell, a lot of rain (like, i mean a LOT) won't and apparently it won't ruin yours either smile

there was a minute where I wasn't sure if everyone would stick around or go home...

I just want to thank everyone for sticking around on behalf of myself, Ty and Phil. Somehow all that rain brought the vibe WAY up and the inside floor of Opium rocked harder than I've ever seen it in my life.

Thank you so much to everyone that kept the party going till the lights came up. This has without a doubt been the single most difficult event to throw that I've ever had a part in, seeing everyone downstairs smiling after we did our best to prevent the sound equipment upstairs from getting ruined definitely saved my night.

MASHEEN ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED THE PLACEevil

We'd like to extend our deepest apologies to Scartat and Elixir who did not get to play, as well as to Dominik and Sorrelle for their woes with the club staff at the end of the night. Thanks for being so understanding about it all guys

men$a.

Ok, i gotta say it..
THAT WAS A SEEEEERIOUS RINSEOUT! in more ways than one.lol

awesome time
Ty, Pete, Phil..Kudos for working everything out.

and THIS was the exact reason when i was talking with the club owners in May (when they ACTUALLY cut the roof back, this wasnt done recently like many of you seem to think it was) that i said it would be a huge mistake. Just seems they got lucky all summer and didnt get rained out, but not lastnight.

Masheen...DEADLY!
many thanks for havin me on that set guys wink

NC-17..RUDE!

Xofer..what i caught of your set man, HAWT DAYMN BREDG!

and all the crew and familiar faces, it was awesome to see you guys lastnight, awesome times indeed.

however..
today im deaf in my right ear
have the raspiest deepest raw voice
and my head hurts

3 tell tale signs of a truly wild night.

BIGGUP ALL CREW!

dOMiNiK*Sorrelle

props to phil for dealing with the shittiest situation like a true professional heart

i would have totally snapped if all that shit happened to me at an event i was throwing. i apologize for not getting a chance to play last night, and for adding some unnecessary stress by getting kicked out (well sorrelle actually got kicked out) for trying to use her phone to get needles so that chris and i could play our set....

......but we got back in [damn, i have a feisty girlfriend] .....but he totally deserved it and that's why i love her......

she's a lover not a fighter......but she'll crack your teeth

good thing there wasn't a call for any RAIN for this weekend.....seriously what the fuck is up with that? i think we would all love a job where it doesn't matter how much you fuck up....

i wanna be a weatherman (and they say fortune tellers are bullshit).....jeez

Phil....you rock!

chris and i will rock your next show.....WE PROMISE!

Sorrelle wants to know where we buy our patience from...she needs ten of them.

we had a lot of fun last night despite all the stress and bullshit from the club and it's employees (fix your fucking roof morons!!!) and we hope that no one blames Phil for any grievences they might have.....he's a top notch promoter.....and very professional...all you wannabe promoters should take a lesson from him!

lovelovelovelove

by the way.....didn't Sorrelle look super hot raindrenched?!?
lovelovelovelove

OK We can't seem to add another review so I'll tack mine on here.

I did have an awesome night despite some of the challenges. I would like to also thank the promoters personally for keeping up the hard work and effort. No one blames you guys that shit didn't quite work out as planned.

As for the Club?

it should be comdemned.

i was really disappointed with the unprofessionalism of the staff, I feel really terrible that this had to happen to you guys, as you worked hard to make this thing happen and should have been treated with the respect you deserved for the services that you paid for or at least compensated for the lack of services offered.

However, I was ecstatic to see the smiling faces ripping up the floor, and speaking of floor, if security weren't such douches, Chris and me (well me mostly, but it was Chris' idea) were seriously considering grabbing detergent and having a 'suds party' upstairs... that would've been awesome!

Marty, Angie, it was terrific running into you Joanna, Scartat, always a pleasure Phil you were amazing and
I will make it (from now on) a personal point to add an extra set of needles to Dominik's crate. happy

(did I mention he's lovely and i love him? and that he's super talented??)

again, the club fucked up. it was their loss in the end, we still had a great time and thank you for getting us back in when i lost my temper (slightly) with Muscles at the door lol

fuzzboy

I gotta say that I had a lot more fun than I had thought I would... but I guess getting soaked on the way to the party will put you in a sorta bad mood lol

I had a lot of fun, got to hang out with my friends, met some new people and danced (yes I actually really danced).

So pretty much it was perfect as those are the reasons I started going to parties and that's why I don't stop.

happy

The_Scartat

I don't think I've ever been so disgusted with a venue. So sad cause up till last night I loved that place. Ah well.

Pretty shitty times but no fault of the promoters
