SHIT HAPPENS!

Well - Miss.Bliss props for putting an event together. I don't think people realize how much time and effort goes into throwing events. In addition, people fail to realize that club owners/management are money grubbing, no moral having, lack of ethics, make a quick buck type of people. But, they are business men and women hustlin to make ends meet.

I'm so sorry this wound up being so disasterous for michelle, i know she worked hard to make it happen. sometimes circumstances just conspire against you.

just a reminder to everyone who hates on the big bop though - this is why we all use the big bop for every party. they never demand more money, they don't turn people away unless the venue is legitimately at capacity, they serve reasonably priced alcohol, security is nice, etc. now if only a few more venues would catch on too.

and one other thing - it's unfortunate, but club owners are horribly misogynistic. it's great to have a contract, it's also great to have a male partner to deal with the venue. unfortunate fact of life....hopefully these assholes are a dying breed.

.Masturbation.

Showed up around 1:30a.m
Here I was thinking it was great I was let in for $15,
Until I walked in...

The place was DEAD. 10 people in the main room, the same with downstairs. When security stopped manning the door I snuck upstairs to where the booze was being served. It was practically empty.

[BTW. If you're going to over-charge for drinks you could atleast fill my cup more than halfway. kTHANKS ]

In total there were about 45people.
300 people checked off to attend. Wtf happened there?

The venue was alright, but not suited for this event.
The only thing that was good was the music in the main room + The complany of my friends...
And few drinks didn't hurt me (Just my wallet roll eyes )

1000 of prizes. Go-go dancers. Amazing deco, etc..
"This is going to be the sexiest party of the summer, you dun wanna miss out!!" "This party is gonna be HUGE!!".

All a load of shit.
And not a smart move to be all talk as a first time promoter.
No-one is going to take you seriously that way.

This party was so disappointing.
If there was as much effort put into this party as there was promoting it then it *might* have been decent.

But it wasn't.

Now, this was the part where originally I was going to write
'This isn't your forte hun,
Stick to porn.'

But it's a little soon to be saying that.
(And I'm not that much of a harsh un-sympathetic bitch wink)

This was her first party and shit happens. Especially the first time.
'Korina' seems determined and I doubt this is the last we'll hear of her. I'm interested to see if she can sort her shit out and put together a great party that offers what it promises in the future.

Although, just as someone else said below, I won't attend unless someone calls me from the party telling me to get my ass down there.

I've seen similer things happen like this before, with shady venues, I wish there was a way to insure this doesnt happen to other promoters.. because it's a harsh reality to deal with at the end of months and months of work.

get a contract signed by the venue.

Not much to say on this one. Shit happens.
The venue was super messed up. Another tale of the venue
screwing people around:
Two of my personal friends, Becca and Carl; they do one of the vending tables for Dark Rave, came out to vend at the party.
When they arrived, I asked the manager where they should set up. He told me that he had no idea that they were comming and didn't "want those people" in his club.
SneakyPie had asked them to come out and vend, and this guy was trying to keep them out. After a short while he came out and let them in to set up, but ONLY after he saw that the promoter was there. This guy was trying to get them to leave before she showed up with the rest of the equipment.
It was by far one of the best looking venues I have seen, but I would never set foot in that place again.

And hey, I know a thing or two about venues messing you around. Look what happened at "The Draft".

even though i didnt go because of personal issues, i WAS going to go...

anyway imho, this party was marketed very well. you cant deny that people knew it was happening and the hype surrounding it was exactly what promoters should hope for their parties...

however, i think that it's pretty understandable that if something can go wrong, it will... especially if it's your first time doing something.

i think part of what went wrong could be that you were trying to throw a mega party for your very first party. a commendable effort, but no doubt it was difficult and you learned from the experience. but if you plan to throw any other parties in the future, work on a slightly smaller scale perhaps and build a working relationship with key people in the elements that you need to succeed. then build from there.

anyway im sorry it didnt go as well as planned but dont be discouraged and keep trying!

peace

5 stars because of your good intentions

That being said, respect for the effort and time you put into this event. I appreciate it!

Just remember there are no mistakes in life - only lessons, turn your stumbling blocks into stepping stones!

This is one of the reasons I stopped promoting. It is good while it lasts, but you gotta realize promoting is all about losing more than you win ($$$$$).

In the end it is ALL ABOUT THE MUSIC, the VIBE and the PEOPLE!

I had fun - big up Michelle, Wizdom, Fritz, UK Connex, Enlight and da ravin crew!

Keep ur head up and keep on doin what ya do!

INSIDE NIGHTCLUB EVERY FRIDAY - JUNGLE, BREAKS!! BIG!

Monday June 11, 2007 - 6:49 PM

!!!MissKokoBliss

K I dont want to write a massive review so this will be the short version. I had a venue worked out weeks ago, and last min they told me they wanted a rediculous amount of $ for a bar deposit and security. I decided to look for another venue and a friend who did security for Butterfly recommended the place. I talked to them and first everything looked good. I loved the venue, the manager seemed like a nice guy and we started working out the plans. First he tells me there's another party the same night (House and Electro) but it's starting later and ending earlier so I should be able to work around it if I juggle my line-up. So I did. oK, this is going to get so complicated I'll just list everything.
- I redid the line-up to become a 3 room party.
- venue calls day before party and says they JUST lost thier licence but we can still go ahead they'll just serve up-upstairs with wristbands.
- ride and back-up ride bail on me morning of party when I still had things to go pick-up. Airbrush guy cancels same morning.
-venue tells me I have to rent a full sound set-up for upstairs, even tho they said before they had some of this stuff, now they were saying they didnt.
-when we go to drop off the equipment the guy lets us in but says we cant set-up, come back at 8:30!! (even tho before they'd agreed to 6)
-he also goes on to tell me we cant open doors til 10 now.
- other party drama goes down and we get to the venue late... as in 10 after 9, I run inside and the first thing they tell me is the other party has been cancelled. FACK. Now I have a line-up with not one, but 2, four hour gaps it the timeslots. Everyone is panicking and asking me 1 000000 questions at once. It was insane. There's no internet in the building so I leave to go find a computer to try and fix this and work out new time-slots..
-get back to the party only to find out they're using upstairs (which was the big MAIN room) as a drinking lounge playing hip-hop.. and they wouldnt let the sound guys set up. So now the main room has to be the bar/lounge downstairs..which was supposed to be the chill-out room because it's small and barely has room to dance.., and the basement was still the 2nd room. They did this even tho they knew I'd brought in full sound and UV equipment and everything else. Didnt matter.
- Outside, PPl were on cell phones outside telling ppl they didn't know what was going on, and not to come, and others were leaving themselves. I was running around trying to fix what I could.. the timeslots.. I didn't even know who had played and who hadn't, who had been paid (if you havent, mssg me!).. it was total chaos and I was seriously considering shutting it down but everyone kept telling me the ppl there were having fun and the music was sick.. so the night dragged on.
-The venue also changed thier minds about the water and wouldnt even let us bring it IN.
-The alcohol they were serving upstairs was severely overpriced, something I didn't even find out til the next morning.
-we managed to break even, and not an hour goes by then the manager comes down and 'collects' money for security. It's a lot more then he said, because apparently when I was throwing it with the other party we were splitting on security.. but when they dropped out it all fell on me. He also added that this only paid til 4, and after that it would be even more. This was around the same time someone also told me the venue had lost it's licence 2 weeks ago.. even tho the venue told me it had happened a couple days before.. so the whole thing was basically a set up cash-grab for them. I'm not blaming everything on the venue, I made some mistakes of my own, how I handled things, and I've taken notes for next time.
-I paid the dj's I could til there was literally no $ left, shut the party down at 4am and we got out of there.

I've seen similer things happen like this before, with shady venues, I wish there was a way to insure this doesnt happen to other promoters.. because it's a harsh reality to deal with at the end of months and months of work.

To the dj's who played you were facking awesome!! Fixx & McNasty, Miss Marz, Brukout, UK Connection all played killer sets.. Psydraulix we'll ahve to bring you back out so ppl can actually hear you play. I didnt get to hear everyone's sets but I was told be ppl all night they were awesome.. I have to say thankyou to Melissa, Christopher, Zoe, Jen, Jenn, Kevin, Ashleigh and anyone else who helped me get through that insane ordeal.

Dj Saiyan, they weren't fake accounts, I had my mom, dad, sister ( because they were actually AT the party ) and anyone else I knew was coming sign up to PR to show support. Over the entire night roughly 300 ppl did come through those doors.. the problem was getting them to stay with all the f*cked up circumstances. Honestly, don't you have anything better to do then obsess over me and my life? I'm flattered, really. But it's also kinda creepy. And I spoke with UK Connection waay before and they said that because 3 of the 4 of them were from the UK, born and raised, they were rep'ing the UK and they could say that if they wanted. For the flyer we changed it to Toronto via UK, so special ppl like you wouldn't get confused smile

So I guess this is a write-off and I have some kinks to work out. This has definitley been a learning experience. I apologise for everything that went wrong, but I'm not done just because I had problems with some bad venues. If every promoter decided to quit because of one bad event, you guys wouldn't even HAVE a scene to party in.

and I give this one star but not for my party, just for the ppl who came, and the ppl who helped. Because honestly it could have been an even bigger disaster if you weren't there. <3

Actually the fact is that no matter how good of a promoter you are, you will ALWAYS win some, and lose some. That's exactly why you just have to keep going. I wont name names but there's enough 'well established' companies in our scene who's first party was a total flop or threw a couple events that bombed. The reason they are who they are and have the following they do is because they kept at it. smile

All I can say is: from the sounds of it, and what I heard from a couple friends...
I'm glad we decided to throw our own house party that night... with good tunes, good vibes, good people and no cover. lol
SUPER glad I decided to take this weekend off from partyin' elsewhere!

I was planning on going to this, but due to no one getting in touch with me, I stayed home.

I'm glad I didn't end up going, driving 2 hours there and back for a flop would have pissed me right off.

Staying home and playing computer games FTW.

Seriously, peeple shouldn't make such a big deal. Theres a dj...theres loud music...DANCE...or leave get drunk and come back! But the fucking venue was a piece of shit..not only were they telling some people to leave as they were asking about whats happening inside... .but they didn't have a licence on the 2 main dance areas...and the drinks were 6$ in some creepy room upstairs...wow comon...even the Guverment has cheaper beers..
Thats just wrong.

So that pretty much contributed to the lack of peeps. There was still a good Hundred people there...it just looked smaller cuz the place was pretty big. But i personally had a great time...All my friends were there and we were wasted! and the tunes were sweet ass. Miss marz rockkkkked. She had great presence and choons and everyone was dancing.. And the decor in the room downstairs was fucking SEXY!!!! The black lights were crazy. Pics soon!. I loved the venue..But then they were dumb again cuz they shut it down early.
BOO.

1 Star for Great Music.
2 Stars for nice looking venue
3 For me personally having a good time with MY friends.

A "zero rating" doesn't actually effect the party's rating as a whole; so effing put some stars down, people wink

But yeah; this party would probably have made more money if it were an all-ages event (being that it was the promoter's first party.) You've got to be known to throw a damnnn good party, if you're gonna make it 19+. Nineteen plus parties entail telling half the people who want to go to your party to fuck off and find somewhere else to party that night tongue
See, this doesn't actually work out if only 100 people wanted to go in the first place wink I'm guessing that the best bet for this promoter was to start off having an awesome all-ages party with a great line-up (etc.) and then have an even better 19+ party with all the people who enjoyed their first party so much....
People under nineteen are usually dying for a place to go on their weekends; they don't have many options.

(...personal opinion.)

p.s. I bet that calling back the event photographer would also have been a good idea; way to make the people who didn't come to your party wish they did.
*cough cough*
As of now, no one can even see what kind of party it was tongue
We can just rely on the already-crappy reviews that were posted.

Second I entered the club I knew something was wrong. I headed upstairs first(wrong area), pretty sad sound system up there too, saw a couple of girls who were dressed in a way that it was obvious they were paid to be there.

Went downstairs, nice deco, Miss Marz was spinning, was really good music. But than my friend told me everything was a sham, and I could tell from the amount of people who were there at 1:30AM.

I knew it was gonna be a joke, no offense to the talent or the few people who enjoyed themselves.

Left and went to Footwork and had a great time in the end.

So no more sketchy new promoters for me unless someone calls me from the party and tells me to get my ass there.

And yeah never trust the attendance on PR, thats not the first party to do that, and honestly if I was a promoter, I would've done the same, it's buissness.

The End.

I'll give the party three stars because miss marz made it worth the 20 cover and I'll say why.My alternative was to go to some 19+ top 40 shithole club and I decided last minute to check this rave out..when I first walked in and I saw there was a whole 5 people in the main room I swallowed the bile that was coming up from my stomach..but after a quick tour of the club and my friend telling me that he refused to leave after paying we decided to stay..We went downstairs and there she was..the dj of dreams..the very sexy, very cool miss marz..My friend and I started dancing, and let me tell you, when I say we were the only ones,we were, the only ones..She leaned over her tables and asked what we wanted and I told her to spin some dirty house, and off we all went...Within 10 minutes there was a sizeable crowd dancing and for that hour and change we had an amazing time..The dj even came out to come dance with us while the record was playing..absolutely amazing time..after her though...barf...and 19+ was really, really fucking sketchy..the only bonus there were the giant fans blowing air on us..

Haha, dj_saiyans statement of fake attendees does sound believable. There seriously was a shortage of people at this one. Oh, and having the party start an hour late and end an hour early was also a nice touch. The 19+ area looked like a room begging for deco, not to mention sound. There was a boombox, that was awesome. Im giving this party one star, just cuz drinks were served to close.

ok , well there wasnt a hole lotta ppl there, but lots of ppl dont make a rave nesasarily good. if the djs plays a good set then i think that makes a party good, and when i got there the dj was playing good beats, and even when we came back there were more ppl, and the beats where great.so its your desicion to dance and make the best of the situation. i enjoyed it.

Sunday June 10, 2007 - 11:24 AM

When many of the listed attendees are the promoter's fake accounts, is it any wonder there was no turn out?

And people don't usually like it when promoters lie. Like UK Connection being listed as from the UK. They all live in Toronto. Two of them performed at Temple of Dreams a few months ago. They were not flown in.

And the added bonus of a 19+ party without a liquor license, ooooooh that's classy.
