so far the most entertaining show i've ever been to. even the opening band was fucking great.

so lets start from the beginning.. got a little tipsy and high (thanks kate and marija), didn't have time for drinking both beers, so had to stash my second one under some wooden flower pot. stood in line, got a wristband happy got myself a 6 dollar beer inside the venue. when i came in, there were maybe 50 people inside the venue (fyi ricoh coliseum has a capacity of 5,500 people) wow i was standing behind some small brunette who was wearing a rh shirt happy should've worn mine as well.

but anyways.. the opening band came on at 7:40, they are an experimental/alternative indie band called Spank Rock. pure hip-hop lol they had 2 white dj's (back up vocals as well), 2 black guys on wierd drums, 2 black rappers and a drummer ( i didn't really pay attention to him). the rappers were sick lol i remember only 1 line "all black girls shake their asses until my dick turns racist.." or something like that. both were dancing around, and the main dude was wearing a purely indie outfit, which was kinda attractive tongue the second rapper took his shirt off and danced until the end of the performance like that. the drummers were on top of their game.

by the time beck came on stage, the venue filled up a little, maybe there were about 1000 people, smallest concert i've ever been to. beck is surely the best damn band i've seen live, i don't even give a shit that he's a scientologist and that his band is sort of temporary.

the stage set up was one thing that impressed me a lot. i've heard before that his shows involve puppets, but i've never even thought that that kind of performance can be of utter brilliance. in the middle of the stage, in the back, there was an EXACT replica of the stage, with puppets resembling band members and catching their movements. basically there were 4 people wearing black, and playing around with 6 puppets, there was another 2 people with camcorders, shooting the puppets and therefore transferring their movements onto a huge screen, including a psychedelic background. crazy

they opened with 'loser', the crowd went insane, and i found myself at the barrier, right in front of beck heart i did try to take pictures with my crap cell phone, but they were terrible, to think that the guitarist actually posed for me frown i absolutely loved the guitarist, he reminded me of liam gallagher a bit (guess it's the hair), but more talented lol the tambourine guy was hillarious, he was dressed in a sexy nerdy clothes, played tambourine, xylophone and some wierd instruments that i've never seen before. at other times (and that was most of the time) we was being completely useless, so he just danced on stage. they sound amazing live and they have great energy and soul for an american band.

before the end of the first set, beck started playing a small accoustic guitar, and roadies brought out 4 chairs and a table with all sorts of plates and glasses, served for 4 people. beck kept on playing, the rest of the band sat down at the table and the tambourine guy acted as their waiter. he got them food and drinks (i guess he was useful afterall ::lol:smile to be honest, i've never thought that dinner table can replace a band in a way, they ate a little and then started playing with anything that could make sound, along to beck's singing and his guitar. everyone in the crowd was so into it, it was unbelievable, and i was right there, noone was blocking my view of the stage. i've never felt that kind of energy at any concert, maybe because it was a pretty small gig. or maybe because i've never been so close to the stage.

beck finished 3rd accoustic song (btw the way he plays lip harmonica is just pure sex) and the band left the stage. then this short 5 minute clip was shown to the crowd to entertain us before the encore: puppets in toronto lollol one was taking a piss at the city hall, others were fooling around. the tambourine guy's puppet was chasing the geese in front of the X lol they ended up making some jokes about toronto, and playing hockey at the rogers centre. tambourine guy's puppet ended up being kicked in the balls with a hockey stick. man, i really hope that someone recorded this shit, because it was just hillarious.

the band came back and played a few more songs for the encore. they are such sweethearts heart and yeah, i danced and now my feet hurt. and i'm sort of braindead ! there were a lot more things i'd love to write about but i just don't have enough time. if you're interested i'll tell you.

came outside, remembered that i had a joint. smoked it. remembered that i had a beer stashed, to my surprise it was still there, wrapped in the lcbo bag, under the wooden flower pot.

one of the best nights of my life

SONG OF THE NIGHT - NAUSEA

it would be a lot better if i shared this experience with someone, but meh, your guys' loss anyone, with ANY music preference would've enjoyed this show. and matt mahaffey is a hottie. i shook his hand heart tried getting the setlist, but some black snatched it from my hand angry and i saw 10 guys fighting on the floor for a drumstick lollol

if he goes on tour i'm definitely buying a ticket. but i don't think that he will be coming any time soon, because the attendance of the show was just fucking pathetic. shame on the canadian crowd frown
